Speed sensor not working....s13 sr20det

Is their a way I can check if my speed sensor is not working? I check from inside the car right off of the harness. Its the Yellow/green stripe if im not mistaken. I was checking to see if I had voltage going to it while driving but I didnt. But im pretty sure thats the wrong way to check it. I think I either have to check the resistance or Ohms...or something along the lines of that.....anyone know how to check it? Thanks...Btw everything else works. Just the tach does not work...

you could pop out the VSS on the passenger side of the trans and inspect it. both the VSS and the trans have plastic gears and they do wear out over time. also if you have the VSS out you can spin the wheel by hand and check the spedo to see if it move. just a few ideas.
