Hey, I'm really sorry if tons of people have posted this thread but I couldn't find an answer. First of all there is a speed limiter on the SR because its top speed is 180 km/h (about 115 Miles per hour) right? Is there any way to take it off or get it to stop functioning. If any of you have done this could you let me know how hard it is and maby some guess as to what the top speed would be after the chip is gone. Thanks:)

wut happen to something about cutting a yellow with green strip wire on the ecu that bypasses the speed sensor on the ecu?

They make a speed limiter removal? Where can I get this, Ive never seen it before? The speed limiter on the sr20 sucks and I would love the get rid of it w/o paying for an ecu upgrade

So there is a 115mph speed limiter in all gears? So a stock SR can't even top out 4th gear right?

Weak... definitely can't be cruising around the track on my speed limiter all the time. ROM tune here I come!

Another thread says its 110

my speedo is apparantly a little optimistic... with the needle pointing at the 2nd digit from the right in the trip odometer i felt what seemed to be a fuel cut. I've yet to wind it out to get it to hit the rev limiter... i dont even think my kade would get itself to rev that high the way my **** runs.

Wouldnt fuel cut be bad for the SR? Shouldnt it be an ignition cut? Wouldnt Too much air all of a sudden possibly cause detonation?

Pull your spark plug out but leave it connected to the coil...have your friend crank and watch as the air around the spark plug suddenly ignites! no j/k...without fuel the spark cant ignite any air so theres not going to be any detonation....much less pre-detonation that would cause damage :) Chemical reactions need catalysts.

Well I have a funny story about this situation. When I got my SR installed the shop that installed it, did less than a spectacular job to say the least. Anyway after I got it running great I still had a couple of problems. The most obvious problem being that my speedo was reading twice my current speed. Not really a problem until you hit anything above 55, i.e. highway speeds. On the way home I kept hitting the cut and needed a solution. The speedometer gets its readings from the vehicle speed sensor located in the transmission. Then the signal gets sent to the ECU via a yellow wire with a green stripe. I simply cut the wire with no ill effects. My speedo still currently reads twice as fast, but I can get on the highway without hitting the cut. Use at your own risk.

PGT did you check to see if they left the japanese KPH speed sensor in? That would make your speedo run really fast.

Werd to JJ240. Conversion is .62 miles for every 1killometer. It would look like nearly double.

That was my first guess and I am in the process of replacing it. However I don't know if I need an automatic speed sensor or a manual because the car used to be an automatic with the KA but was swapped to a manual. Either way I am having a bear of a time trying to find either one. BTW JJ you might know the car as the Silver Moss '97 240 that was up at Afterdark for a long time.

the speed sensor has nothing to do with mph or km/h. the speed sensor is matched to the differential ratio. different speed sensors for different diff ratios.

if you have a car with a km/h speedo, and replace the speedo with a mph speedo, the speed will be accurate.

if you have a km/h speedo, and want it to read in MPH, you need a converter that will divide the incoming speed sensor pulses by 1.613

Yeah I do remember the car. Unfortunately I dont know anything that was done to it after we put the first redtop into it. I think it got swapped a second time after I left there, but Im not sure.

You're supposed to swap the KA speed sensor into the SR when you do the swap. Unless you are using the jdm cluster.
