my transmission got rebuilt (auto) and i was wondering if when they rebuilt it if they could of taken the speed limiter off? because it seems like my car dosent cut out.. ive goten it up to 135 - 140MPH and it kept going.. its a 91' fastback.. just wonderin if that could be the reason its not cutting out..

How do you know you were going that fast? My S13 with analog only registered 110. Not sure about my new S13, b/c it has HUD. I know it shuts off around 112 though :)

well i dont have it for shure but if i go by how the read out is (about 1/2 inch for ever 5mph or whatever it is) then i would be doing that speed but i dont know for shoure.. but the needle went to the "U" in "unleded fule only" down by the odmiter.. so.. u do that math and tell me :) im just guessing on it.. but it dident cut out cuz i was on flat land and it just kept going...

my hud went up to 130 and I still had about 800-1000 rpm's left. I too have a rebuilt auto transmission so it is very possible that they could have taken the limiter off which is AOK in my book

The limiter is controlled by the ECU and can not be removed. It has nothing to do with the transmission. If it is not there, then you did not have one before.

I read in the FAQ that if you cut the speed sensor wires from 4th and 5th gear then the speed governor won't kick in.

You also have to account for the error in speedo. I was driving my mom's G20 and had it up to 120 on the speedo but the speed limiter comes in at 109. There is quite a bit of error with them at high speeds. Were you going down a hill???? You can get up to as fast as you want going down hill and coasting. All the limiter does is cut fuel.

Actually, it cuts spark too. But that doesn't affect slow down if you have it in neutral and coasting :)

I thought the limiter could be removed?I also heard it wasn't recommended (since it did infact include the cutting of wires)

but I know it can be removed with a reprogramming of the good ol' ECU :)

I have no idea what the heck the FAQ is talking about for removing the speed limiter.

The ONLY way to remove the speedlimiter on any Nissan, is two A)Cut the speedo wire...which also makes the speedometer stop working. I guess you could wire in a switch, and switch it only when you want to go fast. But then what is the point? The speedo won't work, so you won't know how fast you are going.

or B) Get a reprogammed ECU, like a JWT

Actually, when the speedo wires aren't hooked up the car runs like **** and I would be very surprised if it could hit over 100mph. I changed my oil and used the old method of getting th efilter off by jamming a screw driver through it and accidentally disconnected the wires, and when I went from the top of fourth into fifth, the car wouldn't go anywhere, it just held the rpm it was at and wouldn't accelerate. Just bite the bullet and spend the 500 on the JWT ECU.
