Well, I figured out what was wrong with my car and why it was cutting out. Apparently the major difference between an s14 and an s13 speed sensor is the number of pulses sent out by the sensor itself. Any way, my car thinks I'm doing 112 mph when I'm really only doing like 50. That blows. And I don't know how to fix it. I can make the speed READ correctly, but I don't know how to trick the ecu, unless maybe I could socket it and get a chip for it, but that's greek to me. Anybody got any ideas?

Could you just disconnect the speed sensor wire from the ecu? In theory that should work just fine.

ghetto, but it works. I just unpinned it from the ecu. works like a charm. next, cold idle issues...

You've figured it out already, but the ONLY thing the ECU uses the speed signal for is the governor.

yeah, it took me a couple of tries, since the fsm doesn't specify what wire is for it, it only show that two go from the gauge cluster to the ecm. My only real concern is whether or not it will burn up my sending unit operating at a higher output like it is. I know the voltage doesn't change, just the number of pulses, but I have a spare, so we'll see.

pin 53, yellow with green stripe. I just unpinned it and put heat shrink on it. I may rewire it and throw a toggle in it later, kinda like a valet mode. Or not. We'll see.

does it still read on the cluster if it has been unpinned from the ecu?

Yeah, it will still read because it doesn't go from the ECU to the cluster... it just goes from the sensor to the cluster, then to the ECU

yeah, the ecu doesn't use it for anything other than governing out your car. therefore, it is only necessary for stupid people who try to go that fast just to see if they can i.e. . For those of us who know we can, and reserve it for appropriate locations, It's unnecessary.
