Now I know this a huge investment... I don't even have $6k

I'm not too familiar with turbo, but by looking at the pictures, it looks like a turbo system has a separate intake and more madness to things I've never seen.

Anyways, if one was going to spend all their money on an intake, exhaust, y pipe, wouldn't it just make sense to just pay more for a turbo system? Because the turbo is bringing already enough power, would an exhaust even be necessary?

if your going turbo your gonna need an exhaust at least 2.5" but 3" is recommended plus with turbos your gonna have to buy the kit $5k-$7k + install and tune about additional $500-$1k. Plus you have a lot more upkeep with turbos and more stuff can go wrong vs having just an intake and exhaust.

So it's like am I gonna invest in a salt water aquarium (turbo) which requires more maintenance, more expensive everything, however it being really nice... OR I choose the fresh water aquarium (intake & exhaust) which is low maintenance, less expensive, and sufficient enough.

I had an Injen intake and Stillen Cat-Back system before I put on my Turbo. The power differeance is totally insane from the mods you listed and the TURBO. It is true though about what you said. With the turbo the car requires more maintenance, oil changes a bit earlier, and it is more expensive. For me money wasn't and isn't an issue so that doesn't matter to me. You also have the dangers if you have a CVT with the transmission messing up, pressure control silonoid and/or the torque converter going bad, but it is totally worth it I would say. I've had the turbo for about 6 months now and I would never go back. It's up to you on what you would like your car to do and how much money you are willing to spend to get the HP/TRQ numbers. Another LA coupe nice to see.

(On a side note:) Hey eastcoast coupes why is it that I see most AC's that are going forced induction on the WEST COAST? J/K

Because money IS an issue. I have no issue with tastefully modding an A/C, but personally, If I were to go with any kind of forced induction I would start with a better platform.

I dont mean for that to come off harsh(sometimes it is hard to portray a light tone with certain words on the internet). I know that you were joking Ricky, I just was giving my opinion. But if money was no object, I would turbo this thing in a second.

So since money is an issue for most people, considering this economy... Intake and Exhaust is probably best route?

For me that's the biggest issue .... I know that one altima turbo owner has already killed his CVT, and I know of two CVT turbo owners who are trying to sell their cars. That's the biggest anti-vote right there.

I've already had my transmission replaced and the frickin car is 3 months old...not gonna take any chances with this one! New rims anyone?

Are you running higher than 5 psi boost?

I'm being completely serious and not trying to sound like a d!ck - is it worth the effort in install/maintenance/etc... if you're not running at least 15 psi (give or take?) I mean, once you're up at that level of investment, why run a wimpy 5 psi boost instead of going all out?

im not sure what size turbo they are running but @ 5psi thats easily 75-100whp gain and thats quite abit! @ 12 pounds your at 180whp gain, 1bar(14.7) your lookin at about 200+whp gain. With just 5psi your good and be quite content anything above id say 8psi you may wanna look into building your engine.

Keep in mind also... these vq35's are running stock block, and stock heads. The compression ratios of the pistons aren't designed to take 15psi of pressure, you need lower compression to allow some type of blow by so you don't blow the motor. You will also a good fuel pump, injectors, aftermarket ecu, completely catless exhaust and possibly methanol to keep everything in check. As with that much compression from the stock block and 15psi on stock block can create detonation with just 93 octane alone.

I've been running 7 PSI since I got the turbo installed 6 months ago. I'm getting my CVT built to stand 9 PSI and will leave it there. Tim at Speed Force Racing said that it is safe for the car to make 400HP with stock block and heads. Anything above that it's not the transmission you have to worry about it's the engine. I've been talking to him about building the engine to go BALLS DEEP, but I'll be looking at 12-15 K for that. I'm thinking at that price I'd be better off getting a GT-R since I've been thinking about getting one for a few months now. Makes more sence instead of putting all that money into the AC. And my wife could keep the AC.

yea gotta agree the engine is to at most 400-425whp before you have to do pistons/rods/rings...bring the engine up to 350-360ish whp your in the 12s and your gonna eat alot of cars and keep up with most

Engine builds can be pretty pricey..when i had my STi the motor build by a shop was around 8 - 10g's. I put everything together myself and had a machine shop balance everything for higher revs and saved about 7g's. The GT-R is a good look but isn't there a reliability issue with the 6AT and breakage from spirited driving? I had couple friends mention that to me and wasn't sure if nissan already resolved the problem. The best thing about your A/C though is that they would never expect it to move the way it does. When i do go the turbo route i'll be doing a full motor build on my VQ and dumping the wastegate into a nice quiet exhaust, so they won't know what hit em'. It's pretty much like when i happened to come across a TL Type S with my trailblazer SS and put 2 lengths on him. lol

Wait, who's building your CVT? Even Nissan dealers can't do CVT rebuilds; they ship everything off to JATCO for repairs. I would ask a lot of questions before letting a turbo shop dive into your transmission...

No doubt that he's good...but I would still find out exactly what he's doing and how many CVT rebuild he's successfully completed. Experience counts for a lot.

Do they offer warranties on the transmission rebuilds?

He has done it to a Sentra CVT and since I'll be the first AC to do it he is giving me a warranty. Others would have to talk to him about it.

A warranty on a CVT build?! Good deal ... you should test it out and see what the limits on it are!

Y only CVT... This would be nasty with a 6-speed, alot less problems too.
