I always thought that a great feature of a detector would be to somehow run it through the radio and either have it make a noise through the speakers or cut the radio off so you could hear it. There are times I don't hear mine because the radio is so loud, but having it right in my face over the mirror, the lights will usually catch my eye.

I've had a V1 for about 11 or 12 years now, and it still works great and is still one of the best on the market. Plus, after living with it, I don't see how you could live with a radar detector that doesn't tell you where the signal is coming from.
Your V1 is a squeal pig. It goes off if the wind blows.

It's not that bad. Plus, like I said, it's nearly 12 years old. I'm sure the newer versions have better interference detection.

I may trade it in on a newer one some day. Plus the newer ones are slimmer.

With your car that should probably be the next thing on your list.

The only "Speed Detectors" I have ever heard or known about are cops. If you mean "Radar Detector", you need a V-1 . Cordless detectors will NOT provide the same protection as corded. Radar detectors only detect radar...not cops. Laser and instant on are a b****...run a 1/4 mile behind someone and your good to go against both as your V-1 will detect the rabbit in front of you being painted. Been running radar detection protection for over 25 years....have not had a ticket in 20 years. Have fun boys!!

If a cop uses his radio, mine will detect the cop. As far as 'Speed Detectors', some of the new ones in fact do work that way via their built in GPS which will warn you when you exceed the limit in various areas.

Add another 15 years to your 25 and that is how long I have been using 'Radar Dectectors'.

after several weeks of research i found that the escort passport series is the best one to get.look it up motor trend, radar decter test.com,radertester i just got the 8500 xd50. it saved me 2xs already within a week. if this is that awesome i want to get the official hardwired laser jammer for a few $$$$$ more. so if anyones intersted in the escort i can let it go for cheap like new if not im just going to keep it cuz its awesome.

I did some research and Escort has a new model called the 9500ci, which is suppose to be the best for both radar and laser. VERY PRICY. ~$1600.

I will look into the V1.
thats the one im looking into not the v1 thats but the 9500ci

Suby - If you get the Escort Laser Jammer, please tell us how it works. I've got the cash put aside to buy it, but I can't find anyone other than the manufacturer that will tell me it really works!

i have a new slimmer model version 1.8, and it does not got off unless there is really something there... not annoying at all. It has three modes low logic, high logic and all bogey. I run mines in high logic and i have yet to be annoyed While i would assume the V1 probably has more false alarms than more expensive detectors with gps/memory, but the arrows and bogey counter make up for any false alarm ten fold in my opinion.
