speed and rev limiter on a 240

hey i drive a 91 dohc 240... i was wondering what you could do (other than an aftermarket computer) do to take out the speed limiter. & what can i do about the rev limiter... i hate when i forget about it and im cruisin down the hwy in 5th gear and rev it up... lol its stops at 5000 rpms... i feel stupid

uh, 5000rpm in 5th is about 117mph, so I figure your highway driving is a perfect example of why it's there...

they should start locking these threads........there's enough of them and people don't need to be driving more than 90mph, and should be driving at the speed limit.

when you actually see you are going to need to take off the limiter(which would be for high hp cars that can trap 110+ mph, or on road courses, tho most you wont get that fast).....otherwise its not needed to take off the speed limiter, i don't care if you crash and get injured, i care more about the other people that would be hurt cause of your actions.

Ever been to south carolina? yeah on the highways, its easy to race over 100 mph... ive topped mine out to 114 and was still pullin a lil bit... carefully racers dont wreck stupid people do... sucks when you're racing a supra and he pulls on you b/c ur stupid speed sensor...

to insanity: i meant that when i am in 5th gear (not racing) and you push in the clutch, it will only REV to 5000 rmp... not racing it will only go to 5000... i just wanna take it off the rev limiter so that when i rev it in 5th gear (not neutral) it will rev over 5000 rpm

wow youre 17 and driving 100+mph on the highway? sounds like youre living on borrowed time. im not trying to be judgemental but im glad youre not driving in my neck of the woods. theres enough crosses on the side of the road around here already.

side note: i lost a very close friend last year because of "carefully racers" she was driving the speed limit in the right lane on a highway overpass and the guy's civic hit her from behind doing 120 mph. spun her car around and into the concrete side barrier. the guy in the civic is a quadripalegic.

Oh please, I'm tired of hearing this crap like any of you people haven't done stupid crap in cars or haven't endangered someone while driving.

I have driven above 160 mph on public roads. It's knowing your limits and the correct time and place that displaces idiots from the rest.

I've lost friends to stupid driving just the same. It's a choice you make and it's one about 99% of this board has engaged in more than once.

If you want to save the world and yell at people then why don't you go out and yell at everyone leaving the bars tonight.

Besides most wrecks aren't simply one sided. They are a compound of poor decisions. Most drivers in the US aren't alert to whats behind them, so when someone is doing Mach 30 and the numbnuts in front of them doesn't check the mirrors or give a signal and just comes over it's already too late. Everyone will point the finger at the person doing Mach 30 but in reality the person who changed lanes is responsible for verifying the lane is indeed clear.

Want proof of how proper driving works, look at Germany. Large portions of the Autobahn are unrestricted and you don't see people dying left and right in a vehicular slaughter fest. It's because they have to LEARN how to drive and LEARN how to maintain lane dicipline.

Hell when I was there I got passed by a RUF doing at least 170 MPH (I was doing 90 and it nearly blew me over a lane), and a few cars behind him trying to keep pace. I didn't feel endangered because I kept track of the cars coming up behind me like a real driver should and got over. If you have your head up your *** and get a 911 rectal exam then so sorry, you are just as much at fault.

also in germany it costs to get a license and maintain it, and you have to be older to even get one. so there goes your argument. if you want to go that fast on public roads and put everyone at danger, and yeah you can be the best driver in the world, which im sure youre not, and still **** up... be my guest. but do it well the **** away from where i live.

and maybe you didnt read my post but she was on a freeway overpass, the big banking ones that turn. kinda hard to see whose coming up behind you at 120mph on one of those things... i guess you guys will figure it out on your own someday, but dont go looking for sympathy from anyone who actually obeys traffic lawswhen youre eating your meals terry schiavo style.

if you want to drive fast but you cant afford to take your car to a track where actual skill comes into play, or whatever your excuse is... understand you are taking not only your life but the lives of others into your hands. yeah most of the drivers out there are uneducated and dont know what to do in an emergency situation, which is why one of them might see you coming up behind em at 160 or whatever bull**** speed and they change lanes when you try to pass them and you both die. oops...

you cant honestly believe you are just as safe on public roads travelling that fast as if you were doing hte speed limit. but then again i might be overestimating you...
