Yeah so, Im putting my engine back together today and Im getting wierded out. Im following the FSM, and noticing that I dont have these colored links on my timing chain.... what the hell?! I have ONE, count em, ONE silver link on the chain, that is IT. Now, I marked the 2 links where they met up with the mating marks on the cam gears, and if I put the ONE silver link that I have on the mating mark on the crank gear, the other 2 that I marked dont line up. WTH should I do? Just put the silver one on the crank and go from there or use the 2 marks that I made as a reference?? Im confused...and I really dont want to mess anything up.

man, not alot of people on today huh?

I also must say prior to having my engine running...again. I appreciate all of you very much. The internet is a wonderful thing, but it would be nothing without people who are as helpful, and knowledgeable as most of you.

if you dont have marks, you pretty much have to count as shown.

That sucks that you dont have marks.

This equates to 2 chalupas.

I hate those red RTVs. I personally prefer the black ones for any place that requires RTV gaskets. Ive found the black one to be the most consistant and not as prone to leaking as red or blue ones.

Steak baja please.

This is the kind I like.http://www.autobarn.net/per82180.html

but yea red ones will do.

my grandma uses RTV to hold her dentures in....but seriously, it should be, i used RTV to put my KA together, just make sure you follow the directions and let it cure before you assemble everything.

Like he said, use black if you can. I and many other gixxer guys use it to join the engine cases on our bikes, and I used it on my oilpan in the sr20 and haven't seen any hint of a leak.

just make sure you let it cure a bit before you join the two halves (follow the directions!!!)....not that it will leak persay, but it just makes for a better gasket. I didnt on my lower cover, and i had a little bit of wetting after a few hundred miles of driving...
