Just pulled an oem Calsonic compressor w/ less than 3k miles on it form my parts car. I'm not installing it immediately, current one works fine, but is leaking mineral oil, so days are numbered. FSM says to store a compressor, charge it and cap it. My local AC shop says not necessary to do that. Any advice on correct procedure? Thanks.

Hey Paul

What I did to store my AC stuff was clean them out real good with something like acetone. The idea is, you want to get all the old oil out, as the oil attracts moisture and will cause your problems..

Clean it out real good with acetone or whatever (something non water based) and then cap it off (you could probably use some duct tape or even put the bolts back in the holes) and youll be good to go!

See you saturday!

You can buy a special a/c system cleaner by the quart at automotive stores. I think it's essentially a very light mineral oil. Don't know how you could charge it for storage but I guess with the right plugs it could be done.

Acetone [finger nail polish remover] would be the last thing one would use on something with seals!

Lubricate then evacuate. You can also then charge it.

If left open to the atmosphere, things degrade quickly through corrosive action and seal drying and failure.
