I took my used spec into the dealership today to find out what work has been done to it. The guy said there was no more recall work left to be done but I wanted to check with other owners and compare what has been done to see if there is anything that I need to worry about at the moment. The car has 60k on it just out of warranty, 5k of which were my miles. I've heard about the pre-cat breaking up and killing the motor, does the recall work I've had done address this problem? Is there anything I should have done to the car soon to escape any common problems? I know this stuff sounds n00bish but I'd rather ask here, get all the bases covered, than end up having to buy a motor or other major parts. I'll list below what the dealer said was done on the printouts and I would appreciate any feedback from you other spec owners.

It says all this work was done around 30k.

Parts replaced:Cover- Exhaust Manifold Kit Crankshaft Position Sensor KitEngine Control Module

Also says, ECM Foam Removed and a few oil changes. I know the belts have been changed, no idea about if the timing chain has been serviced or anything else.

What year is your Spec? Cause if I remember correctly the problem with the cat in the manifold breaking up was in the 2002 year.

The only other thing I would worry about is if the butterfly screws are tightened down with some Loc-tite.

Since you have 60K on the car you likely don't have some of the other problems that were problematic in the SE-Rs like the oil-burning problem and such.

Alright, here's how it works.

If they replaced your exhaust mani, you *should* be fine, but there is the possibility of this one breaking up too. IMO, the only safe way is to get a header, but the stealership will likely void your warranty if it's anything other than NISMO .

They have not loctited your butterflies. Make them do it, or do it yourself. You do NOT want to eat a butterfly screw. If they argue, remind them that if you eat a butterfly screw, they have to get you a new engine - for free. That'll get them in the right frame of mind.
