Your stock one can take plenty of beating, especially at stock or near-stock power.

If you want a stock feel with better wear, get a kevlar disc and use your stock pressure plate, but it's honestly not really worth your time unless the clutch is dead and/or you're making much higher power than stock.

Hmmm...

Alright, well the humming would be your clutch slipping because you're slipping into gear. If you just dumped the clutch into first you'd get a clean thud.

If your clutch is dying, you can tell by smacking the gas in the middle of the powerband and seeing if the clutch slips. If it does, you need a new one.

I like a somewhat clunky shifter, personally, it lets you know you got into gear correctly. If your syncros go, you will have a hell of a time downshifting. Check that before assuming they're dead. '02 QR trannies are prone to failure, so it's possible.

A shortshifter is always a good investment, IMO.

Only way to fix syncros is to replace them.

You could get some better transmission oil, like a Redline synthetic, and that would smooth out shifts. I bet you're syncros are fine though, at this point, unless you beat the hell out of the transmission and/or don't know how to downshift properly.

Is your car still under warranty? If so, Nissan should replace your transmission if it fails, just make sure to show up to the dealership without the short shifter if that happens.
