Well i took my door panel off and finally got to the speaker. To my dislike i found i did not have the correct size wrench i needed. Does anybody know the size need for the front speakers? Also has anyone ever hooked up a diff brand speaker and leave the rest of the system bose? i was planning on putting my 4" pionneer in replacement of the 4" bose that has blown out. Will stripping the wire and a little electrical tape work for this?

if you want to replace speaker/and or radio, i highly suggest you either go all factory bose stuff or replace everything--(wiring,headunit,speakers etc)

I went with the latter of the 2 and replaced it all, cheaper way cheaper than new bose parts, and it blows bose away, also can play mp3/wma files now . I personally think Alpine HU's give the best fitament in the g50 dash

Any speaker will work as a replacement as far as I know....The ohm load on the speaker puts a load on the amp...Just means the amp will run with a higher ohm load

to get the proper volume balance u should find 1ohm speakers cause the amp doubles power each incremental drop in ohms ( something like that)i.e. 100watt amp into 8ohms puts out 200watts into 4 ohms (class A amp)

Correct, but remember that when looking at teh sensitivity ratings of a speaker that the rating of a 4ohm speaker can be 3dB lower then the rating of a 2ohm speaker and it'd be the same.

ANy aftermarket speaker will work.

I would recommend that you remove the bose pod and make a custom mount of of wood to fit a 6.5 or 8in coaxial speaker. To make the pattern you just take the bose pod and place it face down on the material you'll be using then trace around it. Then cut it out and cut your speaker hole and you're good to go.

I have replaced all the bose speakers with aftermarket speakers and it sounds MUCH better then the bose units. Note I used 6x9s all the way around.

Thanks alot for the info. I think i'll replace the fronts with 2 6" speakers and send the back ones in for a rebuild for free, from bose.

Very nice.

Unfortunately even a brand new Bose system can't compare to to just about the cheapest aftermarket system

Is bose going to replace the amps too? If so I'd recommend that you keep the amps, and replace the speakers with aftermarket. Trust me, your ears will thank me

I personally recommend that if anything, you replace the rear speakers with a pair of Infinity Kappa 6x9s. They are awesome!

I kept the enclosres and used a glue gun to fill in any gaps and it sounds great (Infiniti Kappa). Just remove the bose speakers and the amps inside the enclosure and wire into the exisiting wires and you can run off the head unit or a new amp. The pillar speakers are fine to share amps with your new door speakers, you will just need to wire them into the same line as your new speakers. The bose speakers in the pillars sound good with no cracking at all. The Infiniti Kappas are in sync and pick up the pillar speakers in sync when wired as above described.

Get the damn bose out, you will definately appreciate it.

I went to the bose website and emailed them. They replaced the cones and amps on the back ones but they only replaced the amps in the front ones. and now the front passanger cone a crackling. Guess its time for aftermarket speakers.

I think I should get my front amps replaced/repaired. They don't work. I'm currently using the back amps to power both the front and rear speakers, they're wired in parallel for a 2Ohm load.

I probably wouldn't even use the front amps, but hey, I like free stuff
