Hey, I've noticed for about six months that my speakers are acting up. When I hit a bump one or both of my front speakers go out, but now its been stuck that way. Anyone know what the problem is and how much it'll cost to get fixed? Thanks

Not sure, but it sounds like a loose connection to me. If that's all it is you should be able to fix it yourself, if you can find it. If there's internal problems with your speakers you can send 'em to one of the places that repairs Bose speakers. Or better yet, you can send 'em in to Bose and for $75 a speaker they'll put a new cone and amp on 'em for ya. That was the price for the rears in my Q but I think fronts were the same price. Great deal in my opinion, makes 'em good as new.

I think the big thread on that issue was created or answered by Tangalora. If you find it, please post it here!

Does Bose replace them with new "paper" cones?

How does the 10Yr+ design hold up (sound wise) when compaired to newer speakers?

Sounds like a loose connection. Could also be your bose amps..relay connection etc. etc. Me, personally, that is a blessing to replace the bose system... Blow the thing with a shotgun.. Crappy amps with 2nd grade soldering and leaky capacitors.. Coffee paper cone speakers.. Line driven system with 1amp speakers which won't work with anything else but bose.. Ripoff repair centers that resolder surface mount resistors that "magically" fix display issues... Spent half my life with Nissan/infiniti cars dealing with bose issues.. Liberating them is an art unto itself.. Good luck.

metaverse3,

What do you recommend for a good replacement?

I want something independant of the Bose headunit.

I was thinking Boston Pro's.

Funny you should ask. I just put a Pioneer Nav Sys 910 navigation unit in my wife's Infiniti J30 yesterday. For a ton of naysayers who said it would not work, it works, and sounds as good if not better than the factory bose. If your amps/speakers are fine and the headunit is kaput, buy a headunit that has RCA pre-amp outputs. Fuse them into the harness (buy a metra harness..quality) make sure you connect the amp turn on wire..very critical since it turns on the bose amps to give you sound.

If you're looking for speaker replacements, go with your budget. I'm not a speaker expert, but some price conscious and decent speakers seem to be audiobahn, pioneer TSA line. kenwood KFC components..etc. I've never been impressed with Boston Pro's.. Heard them in cars and when they bastardized the home PC speaker line with gateway PC's.. If you want to splurge a bit, go with focal's. Very impressive and quality oriented.. Greate soundstage..and their warranty service seems to be up to speed in case you need it... Bear in mind that Bose has special speaker sizes that no man makes.. 4.5" doors.. 6.75" rears etc etc.. You have to rig them to make them work.. Don't even waste your money with PIE adapters that convert bose systems to aftermarket headunits..Totally useless..and just plain ineffective. If you go with an aftermarket headunit..go with rca pre-outs.. If you are going to replace the speakers, run new wiring to each door, or, if you are good with circuit diagrams, there is a way to bypass the bose amps and still use the factory wiring with aftermarket speakers. I recall doing it in my maxima....sorry, no Q45 experience. Good luck..

lol. I will get pictures next week. check this space.. hold me to it..!!! BTW, don't go with a pioneer nav unless you pay $300+ for the updated maps..it does not even have my street address and I'm a 7year old neighborhood and pioneer claims the map data was from 2003

I would suggest scraping the Bose Amps completely. In there place, you could install an amp capable of 2 Ohms, and use that to power both of the speakers in series (they're 1 Ohm each, right?).

For $75 a speaker, you could buy a cheap amp (50W RMS x 2) and a descent set of 3-way or Coaxial speakers. This would really make the Bose/Clarion HU shine.
