I cannot stand the cheap speakers in my Versa S The front speakers get so much distortion even with the bass turned to a negative level! Anyways... What brands are good for speakers? I can get a good deal on Infinity or MTX. By the way, what do you guys think of this http://www.futureshop.ca/catal...catid=so far, the reviews have been mixed... but it's less than half the price of the name brands.

Not to bash YOU, CodeRed, but he didn't ask how to install them... he asked what brands people liked.

I had a set of OEM Infinity speakers in a Kia, and they kicked butt, especially when I put in a new head unit.

What does this even mean? Seems to me like the guy asked a legitimate question.

As far as speakers go, it depends a lot on what you're willing to spend. Just about every common brand (Kenwood, Pioneer, etc.) has a lineup ranging from cheap entry-level stuff to the expensive high-end. Infinity's are highly rated, and I've had good experience with mid-level Kenwoods and Pioneers. I'm not sure if the S has the separate A-pillar tweeters, but if not, I'd consider getting 2- or 3-way speaks for up front to provide better treble definition. About the only brand I've heard consistent negatives about is Sony - their value-priced car speakers get pretty bad reviews overall.

I must apologize a little for him, he's still getting the feel for how to act appropriately as a moderator.

Remember, he's 16 years old. Every one of us was a little more foot-in-mouth back then.

So please just bear with us and take things he says with a grain of salt, at least with respect to attitude.

I'd go to crutchfield.com, find speakers that fit your car (select by make/model/year) and then sort by customer review. I saw a nice looking pair of JBL speakers there.

I've personally always had a brand preference for JVC, and I had a great pair of component speakers (regular dome and tweeters with electronic separations) That were great until the got so old the speaker material was deteriorating away. There were like 15 yrs old at that point - I got them from my Dad, used, for my first car.

No no I was saying that to EV, Ever Victorious. Because i edit'd my post and he corrected me on AIM. I didnt mean for it to sound so rude.

At first i had posted the link to the speaker installation guide and i didnt fully read his post. Sorry for anyone who got offended. So i was really saying blah blah to EV and not his post.

No rockhound, the S does NOT have separate a pillar tweeters. Unfortunately.

I use to be an IASCA SQ judge, so I've heard a number of brands, so my comments are from experience.

Essentially, there are 3 levels of spreakers: low-fi, mid-fi, hi-fi. And for the most part you get what you pay for. There are exceptions, and other avenues that get you better speakers for the price.

Without get into too much detail, of the mid-fi speakers, Infinity provides some of the best value for the money. The CS and Perfect lines are recommended. You'll see a number of recommendations for MB Quart. Across their line their speakers sound very good. Personally, I don't care for metal dome tweeters. I find them too bright. If you're willing to pay over $400USD, look at Focal, MB Quart "Q" line, Diamond, and Rainbow.

If you want to stay "native", a Canadian brand, AVI are excellent but difficult to find. AVIsound.com

My direct recommendation is for you to buy these: http://www.madisound.com/catal...d=313

Madison specializes in providing raw drivers to manufacturers, and understand the acoustics and dynamics. This is an excellent set of drivers with a custom crossover designed for the environment and not for cost. And the value of this is not going to be beaten. You won't be disappointed.

Another options is here: http://zalytron.com/ and select "Car Audio" from the left menu.

They're offering a Focal Coax and Separates that will be great as well. I'd go with the Madisound kit because of the tweeter but this is a great price for some quality pieces.

Thanks for your input guys!I decided to go with Infinity Amp & speakers, and a Rockford subwoofer. I asked about the Jensen unit and the guy @ Futureshop told me that it's total crap... I guess I can use my JVC receiver instead, but the installation kit for the Versa is hard to find I think I can handle all the installation, but do you guys think it's worth the money to go for a professional install?

I haven't done my own install since 1976. How difficult are these speakers to mount in a Versa?

I'm familiar with this but I was curious about these speakers in particular. They're quite different in size from the factory speakers and that creates the possibility of install issues that us "rookies" haven't anticipated.

You're talking about placing a component speaker system where none exists. Physically mounting the larger speakers in the stock location is the same procedure, but wiring (because of the crossovers) and installation of the tweeters will need to be custom, since the S does not come with 6 speakers.

I believe it does exist.

I'm not the OP. My SL has six speakers. But thanks anyway. I'll figure it out.

OK.. an SL does have 6 speakers, but that doesn't automatically make it less of a custom job. You now have to figure out if the aftermarket tweeters will fit in the stock location (actually, it's not uncommon for them NOT to fit), then find the crossovers, and replace the crossovers with the new ones. This may also require some relocating and rewiring because on some vehicles, there is one "crossover" for two sets of speakers (basically relocating them both into one box).

Or, it could just all plug in (minus the crossovers, you still have to use the correct set).

Noone has yet done a write-up on an SL, so if you want to document this if you do it yourself, we'd all appreciate it (and you'd get a custom title).
