So I blew out one of my speakers a while back and I wanted to replace them with something new. I asked my brother on brands of speakers that are good and he said Pioneer was the best (not trying to pay an arm and a leg). Therefore, I went on eBay and start digging around.

I found a pair of Pioneer speakers for $58. That sounds like a great deal. Read the reviews and looked into it online. It sounds good, but then again, I don't understand car electronics.

Anyways, here is the link.

Questions I have about it:

1. If I buy 2 sets, will it work for the front and back? (So I can replace all 4 speakers)

2. Since each speaker is 350w, would I need anything extra to add in? Like would I need extra power or something?

3. What does it mean that it is a "4 way speaker". I was looking into online and it was explaining what a 2,3, and a 4 way is but I would like better clarification.

4. What the hell is a tweeter? lol. I've been seeing that and I have no clue what it is.

Now about my running boards. There are rusted on the bottom like many other cars. Can I take it to a welding shop and have them weld a new bar or something? I want the factory running boards on because they are really nice and the aftermarket ones look like junk. I would like to do it soon since Chicago weather is terrible and I don't want it to be worse than it already is.

Off topic: Since I got my QX4, besides repairs, the things we have added to it are:
1. a new Optima battery that I just bought
2. Rain guards
3. Remote Starter
4. Tints
5. Aftermarket radio. Going to replace with my brother's flip out TV eventually (when he has time to take it out of his Tahoe)
6. Ordered new floor mats to replace the old ones I have inside

I'm slowly personalizing it to my style and it feels great. I really want to thank everyone here who has helped and gave me advice!

Two sets will work for the front & back.

You shouldn't need additional power. 350W is just peak and won't stress anything since a peak lasts for a very short duration.

I believe 4-way means it has a woofer (which is the largest main cone), mid-range (mid-sized cone), and two tweeters (the tiniest cones). A tweeter plays higher frequency sounds.

Do you have the stock Bose system? If so, you will want to ideally run new speaker wire to each door since the stock Bose system wiring is a mess and has proprietary amplifiers.

Thanks for answering all the questions I ever ask!

I just found out my buddy from school is the head tech for the car audio dept at Best Buy. I'm gonna take it to him soon to help me get all my info.

I do have the stock Bose system. Where can I get the correct speaker wires for it?

Any plain speaker wire will do. Ask your buddy to run new wires to each speaker, I'm sure he'll get the idea.

You might want to look at the tweeter modification while doing your install.

If I recall correctly, there is some type of quickie modification we can do to the speakers that are next to the windshield.

I'm terrible. I thought I responded back. My brother ended up hooking it up. The original speaker wires work perfectly fine. He has to make a little mend on the piece where you put the speaker in so it will he can put the screws in. 3 of the 4 screws went in since the design of the speaker was slightly different. Also, for the rear speakers, he has to use the adapters that came with the speakers. Took no more than an hour for all 4 speakers and it sounds MUCH better than the factory Bose.

We didn't add the tweeters. Trying to save a little extra cash.
