i just joined the forum today :dblthumb: anyways i have a 1984 720-D King Cab 4wd and i was wondering what the stock speaker size was for it?
and if anyone has a link for a DIY aftermarket Stereo Install?
couple other Questions the suspension is reallllly soft and what would be a good replacement for stock?
has anyone done rear Disk breaks?
and lastly throttle is really light any ways to fix that?
i knows its Quite a few Questions but might as well do it all in one shot.

1. Don't remember stock size but its pretty pitiful, like 3.5 -4 " I ziptied a 6X9 and just sat the magnet in the hole. I am going to build a mount to hold the magnet in the center. You can pretty much do what ever you want. Getting a stock replacement is still gonna be a lame sound system. You have a king cab so just put a couple speakers in boxes behind the seats, or an old 5.1 computer speaker system would be great.

2. Get spring rates you like and a new shocks, the suspension is pretty basic. if you want a drop get drop spindles and lowering block and you are done.

3.I have not done rear disc but I assume its no biggie.

4.light throttle? Its a cable and the accel pedal has an adjustment screw to change its height/ idle control.

Yeah, somewhere in the vicinity breadbox mentioned. I cut a ring of MDF and screwed it on top to fit 6.5" speakers. The annoying part of installing a stereo is that the slot in the dash is just a hair smaller than a DIN stereo mount, I removed my dashboard and dremelled out the sides to get a fairly clean fit.

Take off the head and send it to a reliable machine shop for shaving. Let them check for warpage first to determine the amount of cutting necessary.

Ah, speakers are my specialty! ;D

Both of my 720's have 6-1/2's in the door. Also, on the kick panels of both of them there's a small meshy part that you can easily cut out to fit a small speaker, such as a 3" to a 4.5". Other than that, it's a matter of how much work you're willing to do, which doesn't amount to much anyway. I've got two 15's in my 720.

Not true. I would say its mostly due to lack of maintenance. I think at 100,000 miles you are supposed to Retorque the head to spec. which most people dont know to do. My motor that cracked and exhaust valve had a HG so fresh I considered reusing it. But I bought a head kit so I won't but still. Iron block+Alu head+improper cooling=Blown HGs and warped heads.

Also make sure your plugs are the right temp and gapped correctly, very important to any motor. You can also try to index the Spark plugs so they aim at the center of the combustion chamber.

back in the day... i had some custom boxes made that covered the stock speaker holes up completely, and carried 6x9's in them angled to point towards the driver and passenger with 2 12" subs downfiring in a custom box behind the passenger seat.... ANYTHING is possible

Damn, I have 2 pioneer 6x9's and a JLw6 10" that I can try to throw in the truck. After christmas, my friend and I are going to build back my stock z24 and get it to part hauling perfection. Then I can try out different shallow sub and huge box setups through the summer.

I builed mine with a "Boomblaster" made of 4x6,5" JBL Sensi(Cinema Speaker) and 2 JBL 276nd(concert speaker) and it blows around 110-120 db depending on the song, and with 2x speakon plugs its easy to remove... ill post a picture tomorrow ;)

Yeah the single cab sucks. Not sure what I'm gonna do as yet but you all will be the first to know. I took the radio out from the truck and installed it in my car so I'll have to start over.
