I have a 2012 M37X with the 10 speaker stereo. Anyone have experience with these and know the sizes/locations of the speakers? I haven't yet tinkered with it, but was curious if someone has knowledge of this before I begin, so I know what my upgrade options are. Thanks.

Key is to match impedance of the Bose system, IIRC. As long as you do that, parts should work from sites like Crutchfield (which will match the sizes, etc.)

Here are the sizes:

10 Speaker System
  • One 3-inch mid-highrange speaker in the dash

Two 1-inch tweeters in the side-view mirror panels

Two 3-inch midhigh-range speakers in the front doors

Two 6x9-inch woofers in the front doors

Two 6.5-inch wide-range speakers in the rear doors

One 10-inch woofer in the rear shelf
16 Speaker System
  • Four 2-inch speakers in the front seats

Two 3-inch midhigh-range speakers in the rear shelf
Someone else posted up a link to this PDF from Bose. I added the 'murica speaker sizes and the green rings around the speakers that are part of the 16-speaker system. But this shows you where they are at.

Thank you both. I didn't realize the doors had 6x9s. I have read that the Bose speakers are often 2 ohms, so direct swap can be difficult. My initial work may be just to build a small fiberglass box in the trunk and add a 10 inch sub, since the one in the rear deck lacks any low end.

Looking at that diagram, I get a headache trying to design a system. I'm adding a sub for now, but replacing all of the speakers, like I've done in the past, doesn't look like it's going to happen.

agreed. especially with the weird impedances, it's not like we could do a direct swap for better speakers. Mine kind of sound like they are muffled, not all that clear. I was also surprised that there is a 3 inch speaker at the top of the door. the opening doesn't look that large.

Tapping of the incoming lines is a way around it. I'm just not buying that many speakers. I used to install radios back in the day. I'm not up for this challenge. This would require a some amps and processors. I hope the sub I add and some tweaking will get me what I want.

Glad you find it adequate. You're like the only one who thinks it's fine.

Audio is always subjective. The stock system is ok to me. With the addition sub I added its good. I just wish it got louder. I enjoy driving on the freeway with windows down and it has trouble competing with the wind noise.

In my opinion, some of the low end gets lost in the trunk because the sub is not enclosed

I have the 16 speaker sound system and I believe it is good. I came from a 2009 Maxima that I felt was an 'over bassed' bose system with that being said music was clear not muddled and that thing got very loud!!

After spending some time on the bose automotive website, Bose is going for accurate sound reproduction with the systems that they put into the luxury cars. They are trying to reproduce the music they way it was meant to be heard whether it is in a studio or concert hall and I can appreciate that. I tend to listen to a variety music which ranges from jazz to country, to R&B and hip hop and the infiniti gets the bass when there is bass and it doesn't 'bass' up music in which I consider not to be a 'bassy' song. But this is all in my humble opinion.

You guys should checkout the review (if you haven't already), that Edmunds gave on the M37 bose system. I believe you will be very surprised where it ranks with some of the other high end systems that are used in other luxury models

Glad some people think it is good or great. I'm not in that club. I'd say it is "ok", but no more. Mine sounds like someone maybe took a good system and put towels over each speaker to muffle the sound. And no, the speakers aren't blown, they just not good or clear. Maybe I'm unique in that I'm something of a bass-head who also likes sound quality. This sytem, while passable, isn't quite where I'd like it to be.

The quality of the music you are playing has a significant affect on how it is heard.

I think the BOSE system is more than adequate for great sound reproduction but not so much for raw power and db.

From what your describing, I wandering could you be having an issue with the amp itself??

I find it odd that I cannot find how many watts the Infiniti system is.

I am not a car audio expert but it almost makes one wander that may be the infiniti amp is under powered for the amount of speakers in the car??

Factory sounds systems are underpowered as a rule. :chuckle: I'm sure there are exceptions but they are not the norm.

based on the size alone of the amps in the pic in this thread, I guarantee they are underpowered. Bose can say any wattage amount they want, knowing we have no way to really confirm it. In my G35, I had a 300 watt amp going to the front speakers, and another going to the sub, and each one of them was larger than the combined size of the 10/16 channel bose amps.

Movies always sound great on the system because of the 5.1. I bought Seal's DVD-Audio (not a huge fan but it was the only one I could find that I liked)
and it sounds incredible. The output on DVD-Audio is much louder than compressed CD's. Too bad DVD-Audio died out.

sadly, not only did DVD audio and SACD not catch on, we headed in the opposite direction, with compressed MP3s. Unfortunate. It stinks that my M doesn't have HD radio, either. That was a nice feature on the aftermarket unit I had on my G.
