First, anyone know what size speakers will fit in the front and back?

I have 6.5" in the fronts right now which needs to be replaced and I have nothing in the rears.

Would 6x9's fit in the rear or do I need to do some mods to make it fit? what size fits without any mods? (I need to take my 12" box out! taking up too much room)

thanks in advance for answers.

To fit 6x9's in the doors you would need to cut away a lot of the inner door shell. I doubt there is enough inner door shell around the speakers to provide adequate mounting. Another option is to do some modifications to the door panels to fit the 6x9's. They would need to stick out quite a bit to fit and you would need to do some custom fiberglassing around the new grilles to allow them to stick out further. They would probably need to stick out about another 2-3" from the current speaker grilles and you would probably need to fiberglass most of the door since the new holes would be rather large.

It would be a lot of work which is probably not worth it in the long run.

Yeah, my post above goes for front and rear doors.

There's a thread floating around here somewhere where a member was able to fit their Kicker sub in the storage compartment in the cargo area. It still required some fiberglassing but it took up no room.

there are 6 inch subs but how powerful are they not sure, i was messing around with a lil 8 inch and for mid range it sounded pretty good if i were you i would go with a shallow 10 or 12 if you want to save space but now we are talking alot of money

I bought these way back in March.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ...oduct

Pioneer TS-A1782R 6.75-Inch 4-Way 280-Watt Speaker

I fit these in, though I had to angle the screws when I mounted them (they are slightly bigger than stock). You're "supposed" to cut the plastic cup behind where it goes in, but I didn't... it barely fit, but I wonder if it's more than just fitting...?

I like these, I'm not sure why you guys need so much bass. I paired four of these (front and back) with an Alpine ida-x305, and changed the setting to bass+2 and it's good enough for me. But then again, I have total deafness in one ear... so everything is a little different for me.

I also remember seeing that thread Pwning O'Brien mentioned about someone stuffing a sub in the cargo compartment.

I'm not gonna lie the 6.5's leave MUCH to be desired. Today I took my sub out of my car (for a little fuel economy study) and it is actually painful to listen to music now. I have Infinity Reference's all around with the two front tweeters with the capacitor mod and with a set of Memphis Audio tweeters with crossovers coming from the back door speakers. I have a lot of highs and a decent amount of mids, but there is absolutely no lows from the system. I tried my hardest to tune the system to make it sound its best and it just sounds horrible. It cuts so much low end off the music that most of the music I listen to (Rap, R&B, etc.) just doesn't play through the speakers. At 6.5" you really can't reproduce any low frequencies, the cone is just far too small. I would LOVE to upgrade to 6x9's as they pack a lot more punch, but it's just not feasible. If it were possible, I would have done it a long time ago, as I would prefer not to have some heavy subwoofer and amp in my cargo area taking up space and lowering my MPG's. There are some alternatives, however, such as those flat subwoofers. They require very little space and can be mounted in a lot more places than the standard subwoofer. They are quite expensive, but they get the job done.

Infinity Basslinks are space savers and pack a punch for what they are. Plus they're self powered so there's no need for a separate amp.

This is more what I was thinking as far as space-saving...

Here's a question... did your cap mod change the lows?

From the specs I could find online, I assume your Infinity speakers are REF6030cs? Their cut off for the low range is higher than mine... 50 vs 35. The Basslinks has a cutoff at 20... All in all, the ref's range is 50 Hz to 21 kHz, my pioneers are 35 Hz to 28 kHz and the Basslinks are 20 Hz to 120 kHz. So I wonder if you'd think you still need a sub if you used something with a different range.

While I don't listen to much rap, I do listen to a number of R&B and similar sounding music. I am quite satisfied with my set-up. Perhaps it's really just my listening style, while you can hear my music from a couple of car lengths away if the area is quiet (windows closed), you don't feel any thumping (unless you're inside the PF with me).

Too be honest, based on what I've been reading... it feels like Infinity purposely made their speakers "weak" on bass... so that you get their subwoofers to go with them (aka more $$$).

As far as the front speakers are concerned (the front tweeters are wired in parallel to the front door speakers from the factory) the capacitor mod doesn't cut any frequencies for the door speakers, only the tweeters. Technically the front speakers are receiving the entire spectrum (all high, med and low freq's). As for the rear door speakers, they are wired in series with the crossover which has the rear tweeters also wired in series. The rear doors have a low-pass crossover so they only the mid's and lows whereas the rear tweeters handle the highs.

I have the Infinity REF6012's. They aren't even in production anymore and I bought them right after I bought my car about four years ago. They have a range of 53Hz - 21KHz which is pretty crappy. I didn't really know that much about the speakers when I bought them and I was on a pretty tight budget. The speakers do hit a decent amount of the lows, it's just that they aren't powerful. I can hear the low notes in the Rap and R&B songs it's just that they are hard to hear. I can turn up the bass or turn up the bass booster on my head unit but then it just starts to distort at higher volumes and it sounds like crap. If I had to do it over again I would not buy Infinity speakers, I would put in JL or Alpine two-way components in each door (probably Alpine since they are much cheaper and give a lot of bang for your buck).

I have my doors Dynamatted so you can't really hear the music from outside the car very well. If it's turned up really loud then you can.

I remember less than an hour after I installed my new Alpine head unit and the Infinity Ref's, I bought the sub/amp because it still sounded horrible. I don't need a lot of bass, I keep my subwoofer turned down quite a bit (you absolutely cannot hear my subwoofer outside of my car when the music is turned up) but I need to hear the lows to balance out the highs. Right now my highs are really overpowering and the mids are a little muddy but alright. I've had to turn down the highs and try to turn up the lows just to balance it out but nothing has worked.

Basslinks are 10" powered subwoofers, not 6.5" door speakers, to clear any confusion.

And that's some crazy frequency response for the Basslinks haha

Haha, I didn't pick up on that at first.
