Check out http://www.crutchfield.com and go to "speakers" in the car section, type in your vehical information and youll find out the sizes. I know my Q is 4" in front 6x9" in the rear. Might be different for a 98

I think '98 Q45 stereo is like earlier models... the amps are integrated into the speakers, so just replacing speakers won't work. Have to start from scratch including head unit.

Most Infiniti Bose systems are like that.

if you scrap the bose system altogether, can you fit a bigger than 4" speaker in the front doors? I was thinking a 4 speaker 6X9 setup (REALLY good 6X9s that is) with a good amp and receiver would be a nice lightweight system.. Anyone ever cut up the front doors or anything to fit bigger speakers in them?

crutchfield doesn't have anything for INFINITI'S. it will come back with an error like "we have no measurements"...

good luck anyway!:(

colinm, i have a j30 and just finished replacing the bose speakers in it. It had 4 speakers stock with no tweeters. I ordered infinity kappa 60.5cs componets for the front and the 6x9s for the rear. I dont konw abou thte Q but in the Js door their was tons of room to work with. Wasnt too dificult to fit the 6-1/2" speaker. Just make sure to watch moutning depth so you can still open the window. I wouldnt get 6x9s up front....try a component set...sounds much much more detailed for the front stage. go to sounddomain.com forums and read up on stuff there.

Colin,I was able to fit Kenwood 6x9's (KDC-6909) into the fronts of my 91 Q without cutting metal. I made a pattern from the OEM BOSE enclosures and mounted them to a phenolic panel with a 6x9 adapter riser ring. I did have to nibble away some of the fiberboard and remove some of the plastic webbing on the back of the OEM grilles. They are completely stock looking and sound great...I'm no audiophile so I'm sure others will chime in. I went for for bang for my buck and am very pleased.

i don't drive a q but i know bose. the older q's had 4" in the fronts and 6x9 in the rears, but the newer ones it has 6 1/2 in the fronts and back (they wanted to save money i think). if the speaker are 6 1/2 in both front and back i don't think you need to do any cutting, fiberglassin, and things of that nature.

advise on speaker...get Infinity Kappa's in the back. its the best bang for the buck

Hey Highway, Thats what I'd like to do. How did you mount the new head unit? (I'm assuming you replaced the head unit as kenwood 6x9's do not have built in amps like the bose do. Did you just use the existing speaker wires? pictures... maybe?

Thanks

Crubio,The Kenwood unit mounts in there pretty clean, sticks out about 1/16" over stock. I ordered a lower tray (Crutchfield)to fill the gap left by the double-din Bose. It holds 3 CD's and works great collecting debris and crap. I had to remove the two metal brackets off of the Bose unit. I swear those things are welded on the case. Next time I would just buy some new Nissan brackets. I ran new 14 ga. wires to the rears while the rear deck and seat were out. At first I spliced into the existing Bose wire for the fronts based on the wiring diagram in the manual. Someone here suggested running separate wires because the Bose wires are so small. The volume of the fronts were much lower with the stock wires so I took everything up front apart again...live and learn. No camera here this weekend but maybe next week I can get some; don't know where I can post them other than e-mail them. The 6x9's do sound really full. I didn't amp them and have no desire for a sub. Like I said it won't win any sound competitions but they wouldn't like the Blues I play anyway!
