i have a question about my subwoofer's in the rear deck of my 96 i30. my mom has a 98 and her subs are hitting a lot harder then mine are. i was wondering if there is a diffrence between the years or if there is a problem with my subs. any info on the rear speakers would be great. also would it be possible to put new subwoofers in place of the rear ones and use the factory connections. i think it would look cool to mount two 8" subs in the rear deck. or it's just bait for someone to break into my car.

'96 and '98 both had the 200w Bose system. They should be the same. FWIW, the 96 and 98 I30 does not list a subwoofer in the FSM.

There are multiple ways to install a sub into the vehicle. You can use a PAC style adapter at the Headunit and run RCA's to a dedicated amp/sub setup, or you can tap into the rear speakers and use a amp/sub setup that accepts speaker-level inputs.

thanks audatious, the reason i say subs is because the rear speakers put out enough bass to rattle the crap out my rear view mirror and give anyone in the back seat a wicked headache and back massage.

Yeah, they are simply rear speakers, not a "true" sub setup. Then again, the factory Bose setup in the 5th gens did not have a good sounding sub either....
