This just recently happend. Whenever I crank up the volume, and at a certain volume level, all I hear is static. But whenever I keep it at a lower noise, it plays normal. I fiddled around with the Fade and Balance the left and right speakers too. Playing all individual speaker and cranking up the volume. It seems like if I play the passenger side rear speaker at a certain volume, it just goes all static...But If I play all the other speakers, I can crank it all the way up. So right now, I'm just playing through the front speakers only. I also took off all the door and rear panels, to check if speaker wires are all hooked up, and it all looks good. Is there something I'm missing here? Should I just take out both rear speakers and just play the front only? Hahaha. Hope my descriptions help. Thanks NICO!-Derrick

It goes all static as in white noise? If you don't know what white noise is, turn your TV on and unplug the cable. Notice the white and black screen with a shhhhhh sound? That's white noise. Or are you hearing distortion with a scratchy type sound that just gets louder and louder as you turn it up? If so, your speaker is blown and needs to be replaced.

Depending on how much money you're wanting to spend, I suggest going with some nice 2-way's up front and some midbass's in the back with a 100-120hz 12db/oct lowpass. Typically you want your sound stage (the placement of sound) infront of you on your hood. If you have some rocking speakers in your rear deck, it makes the sound all floaty and a bit weird after listening to a good system.

No, it doesn't sound like a white noise when I turn it up. It sounds distorty, and scratchy, like you said, but it doesn't get louder and louder as I crank up the volume.

It's weird because my friends thinks the opposite. They think it's better to have rocking speakers in the back. Right now, my car is running an Infinity Reference 4x6 in the back. And I just got a pair of 4'' Kicker speakers (I got for cheap this summer and no pic of it) in the front, I think they're 2 way speakers too. Oh yeah, the previous owner of my car, made a ghetto template for the front off of this flimsy piece of wood, like cardboard, any suggestion on changing that to a different material? Or should I just rock it with the wood? What system do you suggest for my car? Or should I just click on the Search button...?Thank you for all your help!-Derrick

Could be what happened to one of my rear speakers.

Deck didn't have enough power to satisfy the RMS wattage of the speaker and over time the speaker got eaten up. Sounds scratchy and fuzzy and all that crap.

A lot of people agree that the front is the best place for your soundstage, but if you don't like the sound of that, then ultimately that is the most important thing right?

Blown. It happens due to an amp clipping or sending a distorted signal to a speaker. This can happen by having an under powered amp turned up too loud and overloading it.

Remedies? Turn it down, or buy a bigger amp to satisfy your SPL needs.

Another suggestion; Being that you're dealing with small sized drivers (speakers), I would put bass blockers on them and buy a sub to handle the lows. It will cost more money but would work/sound the best. Even just 1, 10" would be fine.

put a good amp to those speakers and you shouldn't get distortion.

Uhh... Let's see if I can decypher that mess....Ok I think you said your speakers sound scratchy down low, but when you turn it up, the loud music drowns out the scratchy sound? I'm betting you have the same problem as what happend with my sub in my SW-12.I don't know if the spider started to tear away from the voice coil, but it would do that same thing. When I talked to my dealer he said the speaker was "partially blown" and sent me out a new driver.

So, like what I mentioned to the first guy, you need new speakers and will have to turn it down, or add a sub for more bass and put highpass xovers on the door speakers.
