Just yesterday after I started my car (93 J30 w/175k miles), I turned on the stereo (stock) and got a very loud bass sound. No music, just LOUD bass. Turned it off and on several times and got the same result. Finally after about 6 tries and restarting the car, normal music sound was restored. Anyone ever experienced this before? What caused it? Will it happen again?

I have experienced it in a car with aftermarket speakers. What happened was that the amp powering the front speakers got hot and shut down which in turn cut the front speakers and all we heard was subwoofer...and then once it cooled down it clicked back on..

Huh! Okay. Everything's stock. But I'll watch for this on hot days. It has been hot many other times, but never experienced this before. In fact, I think it was a little hotter inside the car the next time I powered up. No problem. Hmmm. Very strange.

yeah, is it a "stock" stereo with an amp though? Kind of like the Bose systems in the GM's and 350Z's?
