Speaker circuit shorted?

I have a '96 i30, and my right front speaker (and tweeter) stopped working. When the music is loud, you can hear the speaker thump a little, but no music. I opened up the door to see if there was a loose wire or something - but no dice. I then went behind the head unit and swapped the left/right channels. The left speakers worked in the right channel, so I know its not the head unit. Strangely, the right speaker was thumping when the speaker wires were not connected - which made me think it is shorted somewhere... anyone have an idea how to proceed from here to diagnose the issue?

hook up another speaker.. It really sounds like that one is just blown out. One way to test if it is blown is to depress the cone and see if it sounds gritty. A way to test the voice coil is to turn up the volume and depress the cone. It may pop on at a certain level. Voice coils do burn out allot. Espeically in our lovely nissan/infiniti's with the built in amps.

Wiring diagram for the I30 should be the same as the MAxima of that year. Here are the wiring diagrams you can use for your model:
