Sparkplug.com is backordered 3 weeks on the NGK 24142 oxygen sensors for gen-one Q. I guess it's worth waiting to get them for under $50 each. Sigh.

i ordered in early august and they said they were on backorder and they would get them the end of august. i got them this week. when did you order? maybe they only get a few at a time or only get them when someone orders them, accounting for the delay.

I ordered on 9/9. They estimate shipping on 9/27.

Mayhem: O2 sensors get sluggish as they age. Less precise fuel control = reduced gas mileage, increased pollutants. Unfortunately, Nissan's 1992-era engine management computer doesn't monitor the sensors closely enough to throw a check engine light. Rule of thumb used to be 60,000 miles.

My plenum is off, so it's a good time to do it. There's no record of their ever having been replaced in 168,000 miles, so I'm pretty sure they're cooked.

Received the NTK O2 sensors for my 90Q from sparkplugs.com after a three week wait. Upon removing the (probably original) units I saw that they were of Japan Electronic Control Systems Co., Ltd. (Bosch-Nissan JV) manufacture, not NGK as I had thought. In any event the NTK sensors have the right connectors and seem to be working fine. My right side was completely out, per the ECS. I bought a 22mm "crows foot" wrench with a split in it to accomodate the wires. Several companies make them. Using it you can do the job from beneath rather than try to use extensions to reach down. While the job is still annoying, this would be a help to anyone diy'ing. It took about 1 hour for the left and 15 minutes for the right, functions of a little practice and a lot more more room to manuver.

Three weeks seems to be their standard waiting time. However, their price of $45 beats the living heck out of the $150+ I would have to pay my local Infiniti dealer here in beautiful Tallahassee.

All this demand must have told them they could raise the price. Now the 24142's are $49.95 each. Or is there a cheaper place out there?

That is a great price. Question -- while these aftermarket O2 sensors show the same part number for both sides, the Infiniti O2's are different part numbers for left and right. What is the difference?

That was my guess. Thanks for confirming!

I'll venture to guess that the aftermarket ones also don't have the little plastic tie-clips already installed, so you'll probably have to tie-strap them to the mouning points.

The right side clips to a prong on the back of the block near the ABS pump. On my car the engine harness side of the wiring for the left side was tied to another line already, so I left it that way. NGK includes a tie in each box. The wires seemed about the right length for both sides. The idle is smoother now, and a slight hesitation from rest has disappeared, too.

I seem to recall that there was some speculation on the board that NGK may make the OEM parts for Nissan. Beyond part number differences, slightly different harness clips, and price ($49 v $103), they seem to be interchangable. I have not seen any complaints here on fit or performance.

Yes and no...NGK makes the factory ones, so they are literally the original equipment manufacturer, and it sounds like the 2 (3) units are identical in form fit and function. Yet the ones you buy from Infiniti are altered specifically for your vehicle. The $50 ones might be generic enough to be used on other cars.

I'm in the process of changing mine and I need no headaches. At around $50 is the functionality the same as Infiniti's? I am changing 4 sensors correct (according to Scottsdale)? 94Q.

I figured that! Dan from Scottsdale told me 4. Was he thinking about an earlier model?

I believe the 1996 Q45 with OBDII has 4 O2 Sensors.

Agree that OBDII models have 4, not 2, sensors. On my OBDI car the NTK's seem to function perfectly well. As I noted, the ones I removed were made by JECS, not NGK, so there may have been more than one OE supplier. My car was believed to be dealer serviced its whole life, with no record of replacement, and so I think it had the original sensors. For my money, go with sparkplug.com. For yours, which will be twice as much, all the more reason.
