So Im an old school girl, this is the newest car Ive ever owned so knowing how the ECU will react to me changing things is still a tad foreign to me. I searched, but got a million and 1 replies so bare with me if this has been covered.

I hit 70k on my G and know I need to get the plugs changed out. I read the write up and sound like it wont be much harder than on my old 240, and much simpler like my fiance's mazda. I saw in the write up that Beans recommended one step colder and Iridium plugs. I have no desire to run iridium, as we run coppers on our race cars and beaters and everything inbetween..... Not really eager to step out from that.

My question is why run 1 step colder? I know on some newer cars it causes issues and allows for little to no gains. I was wondering what gains if any this has over the standard heat range on a totally stock motor?

I will be picking up some NGK coppers this weekend, what is the recommend plug gap?

Unless you have serious Mods, you don't need to go colder. And few plugs work better than the factory ones, part number #22401-5M015
They aren't difficult, but they aren't easy either. You need to remove the intake plenum. And if you find oil leaking in the tube, time for new valve covers and gaskets.

To change the spark plugs?? I didn't. Just loosened the harness cause it's in the way.

I also replaced mine with OEM from my local Nissan dealer. DOn't remember the gap, but they were all pre-gapped and pretty close. THink I only adjusted a couple.

if the valve cover gaskets need to be replaced, I will be letting warranty handle it.

my fiance's 6 requires removal of a s*** ton of stuff, this is cake walk in comparison. My CA only required the removal of about 20 bolts.... so it is a tad harder than that.

I have talked with one of my parts suppliers and they have a hook up at HKS for spark plugs, so I might step out from NGK, but thinking I will stick to my NGKs for now.

are stockers platinum? or irdium?

stock plugs are plats, i looked in manual today thinking they might actually tell you plug gap in there..........

it says take it to a dealer for service

think I will go with Iridiums as they are always pre-gapped and rock it. I have to wait for the HKS stuff to get here, so eh I will still with something I get get at advance and know will work well. :wavey:

All Infiniti/Nissan cars I've owned specify NGK Platnum plugs - "P" for Platinum center electrode, "F " for 3/4" reach and 5/8" hex, "R" for resistor, "5" for standard Heat Range (Hot/Cold options available) and "11" for a gap of 44 mils - PFR5G-11 or PLFR5A-11. The newer ones with the "L" designation simply means it has laser welded platinum center electrode. These plugs are typically rated to 105,000 miles. Iridium and Copper are alternate types of plugs. I stick to OEM plugs as some brands, Bosch in particular, can be problematic and can even damage an engine as we have seen in the Q45 and M45 (VH and VK engines).

Does the newer G's have the bolt holding in the transmission fluid dip stick with a sticker on top saying "take to dealership for service" on it? I found that hilarious on my aunt's G35.

Gonna be changing her spark plugs when she comes down next month too. from what I read in this thread OEM replacement plugs are what she is getting.
