Ok, this is also a dumb question I'm sure, but I assume the SOHC can't use the same kind of spark plugs, correct? I've been dying to use Iridium plugs, and wanted NGK or Denso but neither of them offer it for my '90 240sx and i assume it's because of the SOHC engine. Any other options? I just bought a pack of Autolites but would prefer something Japanese :-/ While I'm at it, any other suggestions for the SOHC in the ways of ignition system? In the process of upgrading everything, changing out the Bosch plugs there, maybe even the Autolite "professional" plug wires I had to buy when the other wires ripped lol... anyway, any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

OEM plugs are made by NGK, also your best bet as far as performance goes.

oh man, autolite is so booty, next time youre in a checker or schucks or whatever they call it where youre from, i hope you are buying parts for someone else's car

again, autolite=booty

NGK v power is all i use because i can replace plugs early and often at only about 8 dollars a set. For the iridiums, which wont give you the kinda power you wanted to make for how much money you are about to spend, ive been quoted at 21 dollars a plug (which i honeslty thought was joke because at another store i swore they were only like 8 dollars a plug)

as far as wires go, NGK

my 89 mazda mpv that i recently junked had a set of almost brand new NGKs. I took them and used them in place of my stock nissan wires (only 61,000 on the stockers) and the power increase was almost noticable.... well it was noticable but not enough to spend a gang of money on unless i really really wanted blue wires that seem to disapear in the spark plug holes in the valve cover....

to summarize: autolite=bootyNGK= Nissan's jesus

I would like to make a note that iridiums are good if you are advancing the timing at the distributor the full 8degress. As the distributor is advanced more than stock oem 20BTDC for DE's and 15BTDC for the E's, the plugs become much hotter from earlier ignition in the cycle. Iridium is more capable of heat tolerances unlike your plan plugs or platinum, I highly recomend iridium for 5~8degree advancement at the distributor, it will defenitely prevent KNOCK and PING.

I don't know enough about any of this, i just got an idea to redo my ignition system and was suggested iridium core... i'm not turboing my KA24E or anything either, but it's impossible to find good plugs for the SOHC engine. any ideas where i might find some? platinum just wasn't doing it for me i guess... :-P

pep boys and checker/schucks/kragen both have NGK's.... i think maybe autozone... but maybe not, because i know they said something about not being able to get ngk wires or something... anyway it pretty much depends on the level of your build, for how ridiculously mild your build is, you might as well just buy v-powers for 8 bucks a set

Autozone just carries NGK V-Power plugs. Denso Iridiums too for 13 bucks a plug if you need them...

I got a set of NGK Iridium plugs for about 32 bucks at NAPA. Why... I dunno why, i just needed something to go with the NGK wires. That and i just got a credit card Te iridiums really didnt seem to do anything really, it seemed a little easy to rev though.

I really bought the plugs for the supposed help towards the fuel mileage, and they should last considerably longer then a set of v-power plugs anyways. I was always changing those out evrey month or so since they were so cheap.

well, the only reason I'm asking is because I can't find good plugs, e.g. Denso or NGK Iridium or similar for my car even on sparkplugs.com :-/ the SOHC doesn't fit the same plugs supposedly

they same the same thing about S14 and S13 heads, but when you get the plugs they are definately the same part number. Somehow if you can get ahold of DeviousKA hes the man with SOHC and he will definately know

My advide: don't trust the people at your local parts store, whatever it is. Figure out the manufacturer's part number for the spark plug, and then ask for that. Even sparkplugs.com doesn't list BKR6E-11 for the ka24de even though the service manual specificaly lists that they can be used as a colder alternative to BKR5E-11 (NGK part #). Nothing against sparkplugs.com, but sometimes you just have to know exactly what you are looking for. I don't know the part numbers for the v-power and iridium spark plugs otherwise I would help you out.

Just get the NGK V-Power and be done with it. You're making this more complicated then it is just like I did until I tried all of the different plugs with no gain so i swallowed my foot and bought the NGK's. Have been very happy. THey're cheap, last long and burn well.

well, i'm debating that... but i do figure, atleast with the iridium they'll likely outlast the car... Quick question i wanna confirm with whoever tho, I did a cross-reference with the model Bosch plugs I'm using, 4428, on the Denso site and it came up with them matching the IK16 which are the plugs the DOHC KA24 uses... so I'd assume they'll fit?

I know my dad has an NGK catalog in the garage somewhere. Ill look for it and post the plug #'sfor the KA24E if i find it.

Edit- Ok i found it. The catalog is from 03-04 but it should be it. I since the 240 wasnt at the to of the page i photoshopped what each colum was to the top so it looks a little off. I guess that KA24E guys are stuck with the V-Powers
