hey, i just bought a 89 180sx with (so im told) a 91 sr20det in it. i was going to change the plugs and ive heard lots of talk about ngk iridiums and all these expensive plugs. for moderate boost (12psi) what is a good, yet inexpensive plug and at what setting .7-.8-.9 etc? also, just looking under the hood, im assuming the pugs are located under the valve cover? first sr20det, forgive the cluelessness.thanks in advance.

Check the FSM, and the spark plugs are not under the valve cover...U really really need to do some research on these engines if you are going to work on them yourself. Get NGK factory plugs, the same as a 92 sentra SER 2.0. And the spark plugs are located under the coil cover, if it has it still, and you have to remove the coils first...

BTW, the excuse, first SR20DET, is a terrible excuse for thinking the spark plugs are under the valve cover...In no engine are the spark plugs under the valve cover...No offense...

none taken, like i said, just bought the car. i couldnt see ignition cables anywhere, and on my honda the plugs are ontop of the valve cover, a friend of mine who is pretty knowledgable about motors made the same assumption. my bad boss.

Ok, two things...

You really dont wanna mention that you are coming from Hondas and assuming things about Hondas and Nissans being similar...You'll get pissed at the comments...

Second, the SR20DET is a coil over plug engine, no distributor, no plug wires...Good luck with it, and there is alot of info on this site to take advantage of. I was new to the SR once too, so, ya. No worries.

Your spark plug of choice would be a NGKbkr7eix better heat range for a higher then stock boost level. I would have to imagine that your version of "under the valve cover" is referring to the grey coil pack cover. In that case you would be correct.
