I have a 92 240sx. The spark plugs are not firing or I should say there is no electricity going to the spark plugs. I have change the spark plugs and the spark plug wires and also the distributor cap and rotors(due to the distributor smoking). I have also changed the ignition coil, the starter, and my alternator. It still doesn't kick over. So, is the problem electrical or does it deal with another problem like my flywheel or driveplate( cause my brother says it might be that).

The car have been sitting for a while, until i got it, it was free. It ran for a couple of days and died when i went to pump gas. Got a mechanic to look at it and he said it is either the starter or the ignition coil. Got the starter change first, it was real bad. Didn't run. Changed the ignition coil, same thing. Before all this happen, I gave it a tune up, like oil change, spark plug(NGK), and spark plug wires. The alternator was bad so I changed that also. Is it possible to hook the starter on wrong? Checked all the fuse it looked ok to me.

Can it also be the ground that is stopping it from turing over?

yes, a bad ground could stop it from turning over. do you have a new, fully charged battery in there?

Another thing I forgot to add, my 240sx is an auto. Since it doesn't come as a manual. Hope this is a little better.

Goning to change it to manual later, after I get some money.

driveplate is unlikely to be your problem. i would check to make sure that the starter is getting power and clicking when you turn the key, you can check that with a multimeter. you can also use that to see if your igniton coil is getting power

Aite I will try, where can I get a multimeter. Before that should I try changing the grounds first, since the car have been sitting for a long time?

you can use a multimeter to check grounds too, and the meters are cheap, but make sure to get a digital one, like $10 dollars at radio shack and if you have electrical probelms on your car you will use it more then you can think of

I see, so I can use the multimeter for multitask. I'll get it soon. Since I am dorming at college I'll work on it on Friday when I go back home. But I will change my ground wires anyway. Like I said the car have been sitting there for a long time before I got it, and a long time after I got after it stopped running. I will keep you posted after I work on it.

yeah, multimeters can be used for alot, like checking the resistance of sensors or voltage output of sensors, you can use them to measure voltage drop across a ground wire to see if it needs to be replaced, check your battery voltage and alternater output voltage...

Thanks for the handy info, hope everything goes out right. Another question, how long does it take to strip out the KA24DE engine? I want to give it a power wash.

the best thing i would recomend is get some engine cleaner/degreaser, spray it all, then wash it with the hose. then, pull the distributor cap and let it all dry for a few hours, with the distributor cap off so it can dry out also.

you can download the fsm it gives some pretty good ideas on what to check, if oyur car is turning over do a secondary spark test... pull one spark plug "you'll need two folks" put it on the plug wire hold it close to the car, or source of ground, have some one quickly just turn it then back off a couple of times to see if you see or hear spark, that can help narrow components

thanks for your help everyone, did the secondary spark plug test, spark plugs fire so it was good. Put it back n the engine didn't work. Unflooded my engine didn't work. So I decided to disconnect all the wires and everything put it back together and now it runs. Thanks for the help.
