ok, im confused about what is a coilpack. i know there's a crank angle sensor so what's the coilpack? is that the spark plug wires? also, Im getting the sr soon. Which spark plug wires do I get and is the the NGK BKR7 hotter or BKR6? I've searched about this and still confused.

The RWD SR motors do not have spark plug wires. It is a coil on plug system where there are 4 coils, one plugged into each sparkplug.

See this thread for a pic of a coilpack both in and out of the motor. Note that you don't run the red wire normally and that part is just taped on.

Hopefully this helps. I don't know about the plug heat ranges.

oh I c now. Is it part of the wiring harness? the other end goes into the crank angle sensor right? Where can I get a new coilpack if it goes bad? Anyone else know about the spark plug heat range?

The coilpacks plug into the wiring harness but are not part of it. The end that he has taped up goes into the valve cover/head and plugs into the top of the spark plug. Many of the SR shops sell used coilpacks if yours are bad. The CAS (crank angle sensor) plugs into the engine harness, yes, but in a different spot than the coil packs.

Here's how it works, nismostate.

you have the CAS that sends a signal to the ECU. The ECU figures out which cylinder to fire and sends a signal to a control unit called the ignitor chip. The ignitor chip then tells which coil pack to fire. Each coil pack is like a mini distributor in that it starts the electric spark for the spark plug.

To find a new coil pack if one goes bad, you need to look into buying one for a 91-95 300ZX or a 95 and newer Maxima. Heavy Throttle sells used coil packs from SR20's

A good heat range for an SR spark plug running stock boost is 6 IIRC.

Thanks guys, it is soooo much clearer now. So much info on NICO! :ylsuper I plan on keeping at around 10 psi. Heat range 6 should be ok right? Can I use the base model NGK plugs or is platinum/iridium a must?? I've seen turbo dsm people just use the base model plugs but im not sure if it effects SR's much.

tenkawa, how do you like the spring/strut combo? I want to get RSR springs with the AGX but im not sure if it lowers the car that much. how's the tein springs? How much did it REALLY lower the car?

heat range 6 is good for up to 14 PSI (i'm still running on the factory plugs right now) If you buy new plugs, you might as well go all out and buy something with some headroom. get some iridiums with heat range 7. Phax also suggests using Bosch plug F5DTC.

As for the springs. They ride really well. I considered the RS*R combo, but I couldn't find anyone selling them online. The tein's popped up on Ebay for a fair price so I jumped on them. They ride smooth with settings of 2 up front and 3 rear (i'm gonna switch it to 4 in the rear and see if that helps with what's left of my ride problems) The combo really shakes the car around when you run over any bumps in the road. I'm talking about those horrible deformations in the pavement caused by years and years of trucks and cars having to start from a standing stop on a hill.

As for how much they lowered the car, you be the judge.

before

After

I think it's noticible. I used to be able to fit my fist and much more between the tire and fender, now I can't even cram my fist in there. Those pictures were also taken the day of the swap, they've settled a bit since then.

What do you think I said? Maybe you just used different words, but I see no difference in what you said.

if u want a stiff suspension setup that will be good for autoX and drift...dont waste ur money (not saying that its a waste cause its a good stiff setup for everyday street driving) on the AGX/Tein combo...the teins are very soft springs (.5kg stiffer than stock i think)...just go all out spend the cash on a nice set of Tein Dampers...HEs are recommended for drift as they have been designed PURELY for drifting...it makes the rear end kick out easier due to the dampning rates...if youre interested in buying the AGX/Tein combo ive had mine for less than a year and im selling them for $550 with Cusco camber plates (-10 deg of camber possible)...its a nice stiff setup for learning drift or drag racing on

Umm...the Tein S-Tech's I bought for my AGX's were 3.7 kg/mm. Last I checked, that's more stiff than 2.2 kg/mm (stock) Granted, it's a progressive spring, so that's an ultimal rate, not a constant rate, but this car is my daily driver as well as my track car.

Or go to google and search for NGK Iridium. Most auto stores don't carry cool nifty plugs, although I think Autozone is starting to carry them

my rwd sr20de most certainly does have plug wires. they were $100usd from JWT.

why do so many people assume that all rwd sr's are det's? and whenever sr20de is mentioned they assume fwd.

don't so called enthusiasts know that the silvia came in 3 trims?J's,Q's and K's

not to pick on one peticular person, it just caught my attention.

well, it was kinda obvious that we were talking about the sr20det and not the de. I never knew that the de has distributor though. that's a good fact to know. I actually didn't know about the rwd de's until now. ahaha.. nobody talks about them so I never knew about it. I am not into the history of the car, I just want to improve my driving skills. :)
