Spark plug removal

This may sound like a stupid question, but I'm having problems replacing my spark plugs. It says in Chiltons repair book to use the the spark plug cover to get the spark plug out by turing it counter clockwise. Well I don't think the person I bought the car from ever changed the plugs!!! Is there another way, or do I have to keep turning it counter clockwise?

There's a spark plug socket you can get. Get that spark plug socket to go around the spark plug and yes, it's counter clockwise. Hopefully it'll give without busting apart. When you put in your new plugs, put some anti-sieze on the threads.
