I have a 2010 "S". It has a regular key that came with the lock/unlock/panic alarm key fob. I went to Home Depot to get an extra key made. The person asked if it had a chip in the key, and i said I didn't think so. She stuck the key in some device and some lights lit up and she said it did have a chip. She said if she made me a key and I used it in the ignition, the car would not start and it could screw up the car's computer. Does this key have a chip and could the computer get screwed up like she said?

Home Depot people are not the most reliable source in regards to our vehicles.

As Canaan said, a spare key that is made without the chip, simply won't start the car !
