Can somebody remind me what my options for getting a spare key for the Q made are? I called the dealer, who says it's a special laser cut key that needs to be ordered from Infiniti. I don't need it to be special and or forged, I just need a back up for if/when i misplace the original. Oh, and the dealer wants in the neighborhood of 200 bucks. What are my other options? Thanks, Randy

Better locksmiths usually have the flat blank. It's not as classy as the original Q45 key, but it's a lot cheaper - something like $40-50, cut.

If you only need it as an emergerncy key, a $15 blank and cut from a good locksmith will suffice, but keep in mind the lesser key will wear and those "metal pieces" end up in the tumblers amking the key hard to turn.

A quality OEM duplicate can be obtained from Joe by VIN for a little more than $100 (last time I checked).

I over used the "emergency" key on my old Q (would start the car, lock with key to allow it to warm up unattended, and unlock with keye again. It only took 2 winters for the operation of the lock to detriorate. I'm sure of this, as the same "emergency" key (& original) would function easily in the other door and trunk. In short the issue isn't the key wearing out, it's where its weared out pieces end up.

At least get a brass blank. No aluminum!

How can I tell if a key is brass and not aluminum?

Here are all the pics I have of G50 keys:

Everytime I have inquired about getting a key blank from Scottsdale they tell me they cannot sell me one because I am out of state. Do I have to sweet talk somebody up there to get one or just tell them that Wes sent me and they will give me the hook up?

He told me the exact same thing. Maybe if you provide your social security number, a passport, car title, insurance, driver's license, vin, health insurance, they might just actually sell you one.

So does anyone know a way to source a VIN number cut factory key without paying the rediculous prices at the local Infiniti dealer

Did you talk to Joe specifically? Maybe with a faxed copy of the title he could do it??

I think regardless it's going to be close to $100 (maybe more) for the OEM key.

As mentioned before, it's only cheaper short term ...

This isn't an opinion, this is what has happened on both of my Q's.
