So my favorite audio company is raising their prices on the 1st of feb which means I'm going to have to buy my audio equip before the car gets here. What I want to do is put a pair of 15" subs in the rear deck, it will take alot of custom work I know and trust me... i'll make it look nice (by nice I mean mostly stealth). What I need to know is how big is the rear deck height and width wise, then beneath the deck how deep is it? the Q's that I drove looked to have some space between the rear seat and the trunk carpet... whats in there?

thanks in advance.

The gas tank is in between the rear seat and the trunk........ So you dont have a lot of space back there...

Heres a picture of what im talking about, its from a 94 Q but its the same basic idea.......

There's actually a good bit of room on top of the gas tank. Y33's come with Factory rear Shock Tower Bar, but even on that you've got about 12" of room above it. I've always thought mounting a bass tube on the RSTB would be stealthy and all the boost you need.

wow is this how the y33 looks to ?

if that's the case then you can easily stuff a 10" sealed enlcosure up in there.

No, it's similar, but the Y33 has lots more room.

Good luck on a sealed enclosure...I have been looking at my (94Q) for quite a while and there just isn't that much room under the rear deck when you take into consideration all the fuel lines and electronic modules. I even considered bagging some expanding foam to make a mold around all the obsticles. My current thinking is to use a aperodic system for 3- 10" or 2- 12" subs and rebuilding the rear deck to make room. Another good option would be to build one or two enclosures on either sides of the trunk for a small box subwoofer. Then pull the rear glove box out and turn it into a nice grill.

Good Luck

If you're going to be mounting subs to the rear deck, you're not gonna be far off from fabricating a new panel anyway, so you can also raise it a tad to give you a few extra inches. It's also possible to use those new slim subwoofers, such as Pioneer's line that's supposed to be pretty dang good from what I've heard...

I used to have one and you'd need two 10" to get the "boom boom" sound powerful.

can anybody confirm this 12"edness with a measurment. also, how much area is on the rear deck, do I have at least 35"X18"

Its most likely going to be done by cutting holes out in the rear deck to make room for the magnets, using 3/4" MDF on top of the stock deck to make the solid baffle and then build a new rear deck cover to pretty it up.

A note about the slimsubs, Elemental designs just came out with one that is getting good reviews, its cheaper than the pioneer too. its called the SQ10. I think the most practical sub addition would be a pair of 6.5" subs with about 150Wrms a piece. elemental designs 7Kv.2 would work great. but like I said thats practical and practical is not my style.

My Q is getting inspected at Crest infiniti in the morning... I'm excited.

Q, I'm guessing your talking about the wiring to the little amplifiers on the bose speaker right? is there 4 wires? I'm guessing it's power, ground, +signal, -signal. so bust out a multimeter and check resistance for a zero, thats ground. then check voltage for 12Vish thas prolly power. then the signal wires are the other two and it doesn't really matter if you have them wrong it won't hurt anything it just will be 180 degrees out of phase. when I get my Q in a couple weeks I can confirm this as I'm pulling the whole BOSE system out.

i put two solar barick 10s in my rear deck in my G50. it was hard, and im good. ive never seen the trunk on the Y33 but 15s are gonna be tough/impossible. maybe it was hard for me cause of the massiveness of the L7s but i wish you luck.

The eD 16Ov.2's are aprox the massiveness behind the cone, just more cone area. I bet those solo barics were pretty loud huh. how bad did the trunk rattle?

Since its a Bose, they're not regular speaker signals, they're low level inputs. And there is a bit more space in the y33's under the back deck than the older models. Also, if rebuilding the deck, you'll pick up some space since the rear shade takes up quite a bit of space in the back deck.

not a problem, attach them to RCA plugs and wala ! RCA inputs !!

high level speaker level inputs ? no problem ! use an amp that accepts speaker level inputs ! wala !
