I'm pretty sure a test pipe is just a pipe that deletes the cats and makes the exhaust more free flowing. I have also heard of resonated test pipes which are the same thing and as you can guess with a resonator.

Yeah, just go to an exhaust shop and tell them to cut out your cat and replace it with straight piping. Obviously though you shouldn't do it if your car needs to pass emissions. Also if the cat has an O2 sensor you will get a CEL if you remove it and depending on whether or not its a primary or secondary O2 sensor you may run crappy because the computer uses feedback from the primary sensor.

But to be realistic, all that "difference" you felt was in your head. You aren't going to gain anything from the test pipe except noise, especially if your exhaust is stock. You have to remember that your system only flows as well as the most restrictive piece will allow it.

The A4 Turbo is slow, and will always be slow, trust me; That's what I traded in for my coupe. Especially if it's AWD. The A4's weigh about 5000lbs, and the turbo won't start spooling till about 4300rpm, and by then your about to change gears. It made pulling out in traffic, or left turns seriously dangerous. I still loved, and miss that car. By far my favorite I've ever owned, nothing beats the AWD in the rain or snow.

I loved the car, it was a fine piece of german engineering. I'm not all about go, I'm more on the show. Why have something nice, if you only see it in a blur? Don't get me wrong, once the turbo starts spooling it'll move, but the handling was where it was at. I absolutely loved the car and all its creature comforts. If it wasn't for the cost of gas with the amount of driving I do for work, and the transmission starting to slip I would have kept it. Still a great car though.
