okay well i have wired a e60 and a n60 into the car but neither worked. tried to wire my j60 back into the car frustrated as heck and crossed power with the ground didnt notice until i tried to turn the car over . melted the wire a good couple of inches back. rewired it the right way now the car wont crank with the maf hooked up and shuts off with it hooked up. after utilizing the search button and going through 63 threads about mafs i've come to the conclusion that i might have fried my ecu. i opened it up and found what looked like a yellow and brown streak but wasnt sure if it was what i was supposed to be looking for or not. when it does crank theres black smoke out the back and smells like raw fuel. that 280z i was lookin at is lookin better everyday.

Yeah, sounds like you smoked it. What engine is it for? ECU's aren't too expensive.

I can most likely fix that ECU if you want.

im just gonna buy the 280 and build on the 20 for a while i need at least a low 12sec car to be competitive in where i want to race. i'll worry about the ecu and tuning once the engine is to spec

If its the trace I'm thinking of I fried the same one.

I soldered it back together and Ive been running strong ever since. It took me about 15minuets to fix it.

Its really not that hard. I would tell you how to do it but it requires good soldering skills and it doesn't sound like you have those skills (not to be offensive, not many people do).
