Hey everyone I've got a mystery for ya. My truck sounds like a 10 speed (high speed clicking noise) when it is either in gear with no throttle being applied or in neutral. (5 speed manual) My question is what is making that noise!? It does not happen all the time but is becoming more frequent. I just wanted t check here before I take it into the shop to be investigated. I was thinking it might be the rear-end? not enough oil? or maybe wheel bearing? I have never heard a bad one make this sort of noise tho so I'm kinda lost. I am fairly certain it is something drive line related and I know it is big bucks to have them tear in to figure stuff out so any clues would be awesome.

I tried to get into my rear end to check the levels but everything is really really rusted shut I would need a lift and some rust penetration spray, which is possible but again I'd like some insight from the community b4 i go crazy!

Could be a bad u-joint on the driveshaft as well, have that checked. Mine started out sounding like the rear end was going out (clicking) but then got progressively worse till now the who truck shakes when coasting...this is my retired 1996 yard truck BTW.

Thanks for the input Rev! Hmm wonder if I could do that myself or not because I have access to a shop with all the tools I that I probably would need. But I have never done anything like this before...hmm
