ok i have a stupid q'' i'm too lazy and cheap too get a hoist to hoist my engine. Well as you know i need learence to taker out the oil pan and instead if getting a hoise to give me the clearance. i thought i could maybe..put a wood block under oil pan i can raise it from there then unbolt the hard to get blots under the transmission cross member than lower the cross memebr a little to slide the pan out then redo it again to put it back which is gonna be hard.... do you guys think its a stupid idea or or could work?? think its crazy enough to work. and of course i will support the car on jack stands and use a cat to lift the motor.

Not smart dude. Find one or a buddy that would let use some sort of rack. The way you're describing it would not be safe. But if you do, make sure you have a few buddies there just in case.

why not? i'm going to support the car on jack stands and use a support for the cross member and instead of removing the engine mounts and hoisting the car up to give me the clearence i can put a block under the oil to protect it and jack it up to give me the clearence to get into the hard to reach area's of the oil pan then lower the car down slowey with the front bolts still in so i can unbolt it then just slide it out. Sounds like it would work i looked and thought about it for like 20 min under the car seeing it could work i need to know if it will damage the oil pan or the enging or anything else i doubt anything will fall on me... the engine should stay in since the motor mounts are still in and if i have to, i will lower the cross memebr a couple inches like in the fsm says too. If surely this not a safe way then i guess i'll just rent one... but i don;t have alot of money to spare..."damn taxes screwed me up this year" any help would be good, i hacn';t been with my 240 for like 3 months i'm really anxious to get it back runing.

Why? If it is in the bottom of the pan, forget about it. You aren't going to pull it into the motor, it is impossible.

yeah i believe it fell at the bottom of the oil pan or near the front cover.. i'm gonna barrow a cherry picker, lossen the motor mounts and try to get as much clearence as i can to get the oil pan off. If its not in there then....well i guess it's the front cover then , just sitting there.

The front cover won't come off until you get the pan and oil pickup off of it. I am telling you though, it will never become an issue if it is at the bottom of the pan.

i still rather not try it i'm too paranoid to do it. I don't wanna believe its at the bottom. I'm gonna drop it hopefully this weekend and if its not there then the front cover.
