Has anybody tried to put any kind of soundproofing material under the mat in the back to block some of the road noise? I don't even know where to go to look for something like that. Some of the roads I get on are so noisy that I can barely hear my stereo!

I found this. I'm going to measure my car and see how big a piece I need and I'm going to try it. Let me know if you guys know of anything better.

I think I'm going to get this. Do you think 12 sq ft will cover that area? If I like it, I might get enough to put under the floor mats.

Realistically you can use any of them....I've had experience with RAAMmat and second skin. Second skin was definitely the better of the two. Yes 12 sq ft would cover that area, but the dynamat you have pictured is extremely expensive.

Road noise is obvious in a z car but to do it right you have to put it on the metal beneath the carpet. This way you're actually having the outside road noise absorbed by the material. There have been several threads attributed to people using different sound deadening materials in their cars....

Here is one to get you started....

Thanks O&B. I wish I could afford to get someone to strip out the interior and do it right. No way I would tackle that on my own.

I was just kinda looking for a quick fix. Seems like most of just the tire on pavement noise is coming from behind me. I want something non-adhesive that I can just put under the rug. Thanks for the links. I'll check them out and let you know what I do and how it works. :)

I know this really isn't a quick fix. Most of the noise you're probably hearing is from the rear fender wheel. You could buy some rubber undercoating, jack the car up and take the wheels off, remove the rear fender wheel plastic and spray the coating. It could be a quick fix that wouldn't cost much. There are different types of mats that are similar to the dynamat. they all pretty much work the same depending on how thick they are. There are several different sprays as well..

Good luck with whatever you choose to do, and let us know how it goes and if it works.

I have found myself having the same problem on some roads. I'm a drummer in a metal band too so I'm likely half deaf haha and I still find myself cranking the bose, especially near my house.

Update:

Got my DynaPad in and installed. The stuff is extremely easy to work with and is almost the perfect size for the Z hatch. :) I can't say that it made a whole lot of difference, but is is an improvement. The car has a much more solid sound. No rattling or clunking from the rear. I took the 2 pieces that I cut out for the wheel well and put them under the seats.
