damn i wish i could show mine. it's still underconstruction though. i have to 10" MTX thunder 4K jensen speakers, mids, and tweeters. and i have a jensen 600watt amp running everything 4 channel. it hits great, there isn't any gargaling sounds when the system is up (thats if you take out the back seat like i did) i'll try and get some pics though

It isn't lightwieght but I can take it out pretty easily. Another problem I have with it is it likes to slide around back thier a lot. So i have to prop it into place by using my skateboard (Skateboard in pic #2).

dude, under some very bad circumstances, an unsecured box could be quite lethal!! Your's may be too big to really move around, but I'm sure we've all heard the stories of unsecured speakers flying from the back window and clipping driver/passengers.

lOL myrk mine too. i took out my back seats and designed the box the in the same format as the seats once where but i inverted teh subs so that they would be against the seats when i pull teh seats all the way back and recline them on an angle like this _/

Yeah... I've always wondered what would really happen if I got in a wreck what would happen to the speakers. But the only thing i can think of is they would really stay in the same place because they are to big to even get out of that hole where the window and seat is. Unless for some unknow reason it breaks though the back seat... that could be a problem. Have any idea's on how to strap it down other than bolting it to the floor. I can't put holes in the box and I also don't like the idea of putting holes in my car too.

well if you want to stay light, just go with one sub... you can get a lot decent subs that weigh around 20lbs, like alpine type R's, or kicker comp vr...

only way you are truely gonna stay light is if you don't go big, so no beefy amps, and stick to 12" max for sub. a kicker Comp VR with 150W rms going through it would sound pretty good, and max weight would probably be no more than 40lbs including box/amp... a 1 cu.ft. sealed box would work just fine

time to compromise. which does he want? seriously ill beats, with a disgustingly enormous box?? or aftermarket speakers to fill the factory locations?? best thing i would suggest is some very high end(MB Quart) mids/highs and a single modest-sized sub(JL 8 or 10w6, both pound for the $$), with one modest amp. nothing too fancy/gawdy, get a stealthy box, hide the amp = clean, not too heavy overall, excellent SQ = dialed in.

you'll have a hard time finding a list of the weight values of popular amps/speakers. I doubt such a list exists.

How do you like that elemental designs sub Woodmister, looks just like the Massive Audio's CW 15D, http://www.massiveaudio.com/2002/woofer/cw.htmlI'm about to redo my whole setup with all Massive, to try them out.

lots of speaker companies will use the same baskets. Those in particular look like the 8000 series MTX subs as well as the current generation Eclipse Aluminum subs. However, they are definitely different subs.

For the lightest setup, use a sub that has high excursion and power handling, requires a small sealed box, and a sub amp that is Class-D. Those amps are usually a ton smaller than the Class-A/B ones and the box is a ton lighter (usually) than bandpass and ported subs because sealed boxes are smaller (usually).

Friend of mine used a sub out of Texas in the early 90's. He was not getting the "hit" he wanted so he called them and they said the box was too big and should be sealed. I think he ended up with 2 - 12's, each in a 0.7 cubic foot sealed box. behind the seats in a gen 1 MR2. He had a ton of power on each one, but the hit a ton even with the windows down and roof off/open.

Keep in mind any box regardless of size built of the right materials (wood that is) will be heavy. If he's really concerned about weight, look for a high quality, lightweight material that you can use to fabricate the box.

You should be ale to do a search on amps and find shipping weights listed for most, that'll work good enough for comparison.

Best of luck.
