So i was thinking about getting some subs for my coupe. i was planning on ordering the zenclosure and these subs http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... 1665866124 since i want 2 subs its says that they are rated for a combined total of 700 and a 2600watt peak power, so does this mean i need a amp thats is 700 watts or 2600? if you would can you point me in a direction of a good amp any brand for a good price.
thx in advance! :)

You dont need anything over 1,000 watts for those subs in my opinion. Im running a 750W amp to my two 10" Kicker CompVXs and they are rated at 600RMS/1200PEAK each. Hits plenty hard and I only have the gain about half.

I would actually look into a different sub altogether. Ive personally never been a fan of Sony. Look into JL or Kicker and you should be able to find something in the same price range that will do you much better.

Having owned Sony subs in the past, I can tell you to avoid them like the plague. I had to have mine replaced under warranty 7 times in 2 years. I got a killer deal on them, which is the only reason I had them in the first place.

The OHM rating you need is completely dependent on how you intend to wire them. If you get an Amp that is 2 Ohm stable, you can get two 4 Ohm woofers, wire them in parallel, and effectively double your output allowing you to get a less powerful amp. That being said, stable or not, running your Amp under that kind of load does a few things:

1) Makes it run really hot. I assume you will trunk mount it, which doesn't help either. Mine used to trip thermal protection fairly often, which shuts your amp down for safety. This was even worse in the warmer months. I actually burned a hole in the back of my rear seats in my last car.

2) Really, really hard on the internals of the amp. Expect to burn it up a lot more quickly than one running at 4 Ohm load.

3) Lower resistance mean higher Amperage draw on the alternator. I don't know the specifics on the Altima alternator off-hand, but I know I replaced the one in my previous car 6 times in 7 years. That's not normal. :)

Check out this write-up over at Crutchfield. I'm not a big fan of them, but they do have some fantastic info on their site.

Basic rule of thumb is match the OHM rating of the amp to the total OHM load of the subwoofers and you are OK. DO NOT match a higher OHM rated amp with a lower OHM rated sub. Example amp rated stable at 4 OHMs and you put a 2 OHM load sub on, it is terrible. You will destroy the amp. You CAN match higher rated subs to amps though, example 4 OHM load sub on 2 OHM amp, however you will not be using the amp to full potential and are basically wasting its power.

2k10 is correct in the points made above about a perfect amp to sub OHM match, but I would not have it any other way. As long as you do a quality install and make sure you arent pushing the limits of what your equipment and car can handle you will be just fine. Like I said Im only running one 750W amp on two 10" subs and its plenty, anymore would shake the car to pieces.

FYI my set-up...
Kicker ZX750.1 amp (2 OHM)
2 Kicker CompVX 10" DVC 2 OHM woofers (each woofer wired series to 4 OHMs, then both wired parallel back down to 2 OHMs)
