I have two neon tubes with that pulse with the sound. my question is will placement in the footwells of my car effect the way it pulses? Will the sound of the engine do anything or will it just pulse to the music?

It depends where you put them. Mine are connected to a sensor, and I have found that actually hiding the sensor somewhere like in the glove box makes them pulse better because its so sensitive that it starts to just stay on continuously if the music is too loud. Mine were pre-connected to the sensor, so if yours aren't, it will obviously be a little different, but I don't see them not working, it should be fine.

mine have the sensor built into it. so is there anything i can do, i want them in the footwell, but it seems as if the sound of the engine keeps them on the entire time.

is there a different sensor i can get? or can you recommend any that have a sensor like yours?

Mine were just some cheap ones i got as a gift. they probably came from a cheap auto store.I saw some led boards that pulsed with music a while back, I'll see if I can find the thread and post it later.

I found these on ebay, its probably similar to what you already have. ebay has tons of these listed under "lights" check out leds as well, they can be way brighter.

These ones off of amazon are really nice too, my friend has them in his car, and they are pretty nice. look for something where you can choose where the sensor goes so you can play with it until you find something that works

just a quick and easy suggestion-

before trying to rewire the tubes and sensors, figure out which end of the tube has the built-in sensor. take a piece of cloth and zip-tie it, or wrap some electrical tape around the sensor. the idea is to muffle the sensor and isolate some of the vibrations from being picked up too easily. could also use some polyfil batting (the kind used in sub boxes) instead.

figure if you're gonna hafta pull your tubes out, it wouldn't hurt to give this a try before having to buy a new sensor kit and breaking out the soldering iron.

If you have leds and wish to do this, or would prefer to isolate the frequency receiver, a simple "color organ" can be bought and/or built into a project box. I plan on doing this as soon as i get some money and thanks to think thread, im going to insulate the box now.
