Coated my underside (the cars not my own!) with a good layer of undersealing compound and also the plastic wheel arch liners. It has definately reduced road noise. It messing around I discovered some further opportunities for noise reduction that might be of interest to Elwesso in particular:

1. Rear side of front wheel arch line nearest door has a layer of foam. I suspect for noise reduction. I am going to investigate whether this can be improved further.

2. Front kick panels provide an opportunity for adding some foam also. I am thinking foam rubber not the spray on type.

3. In the trunk, removing the carpeting at the sides reveals a major area for noise reduction. It is possible to shove foam up into the roof pillar area which is double skinned and hollow. Also foam can be glued to cover the wheel arch

4. Under the spare wheel is another area to apply a sheet of foam and also to the rear of of the verticle carpet panel that hides the fule tank.

5. The A and B pillars can be treated with expandable foam from an aerosol

6. After removing the door trims a layer of asphalt roofing sheeting can be glued or tape on over the polyethylene barrier

Have fun

Would you please tell me what undersealing compound you used and where you bought it?

Thanks

Rover,

How much weight do you estimate this sound proofing added to your Q?

I was very concious of this and I weighed everything. It came to about 20lbs so it is almost negligible

Have you put sound deadening stuff in there yet......

Id like to put something on the inside of the door so it doesnt have that hollow sound when you close it......

Ive also noticed the quarter panels are hollow too..... Might not be bad to put some expandable stuff in there.......

How much is the undercoating (prolly not a bad idea from the rust standpoint either.....

Wasn't it Infiniti that had the bald-ish British guy in their ads eons ago demonstrating the difference between Q45 sheetmetal having a layer of stuff sandwiched between two layers of regular steel, making it quiter?

As opposed to a single layer steel?
