Has anybody done dynamat or any of the other alternatives like second skin or fat mat? I'm going to start with the trunk and doors in a couple weeks and was wondering if anybody had suggestions for what to use in the versa. Also, has anyone tried peel and seal? I've heard some good things about it and it is insanely cheap, so even if I have to double layer it, it would still be cheaper than dynamat. Any thoughts or sugestions?

may sound like a stupid idea but it worked out great i only had enough dynomat for my 2 doors so i bought a full role of "underlayment" for roofing and a thing of contact glue, as well as 2 cans of foam filler. it was hard to keep it clean but i would cut the piece and dry fit it then use the glue, wait then stick i did 2 layers and it worked great. the foam i used on the joints of my bumpers and fenders and that really helped as well. i am pushing two 12" JL subs with some decent ampage and it still has no rattle in it and was super cheep, just a though.

Thanks for the idea. I was more thinking of just something I can peel off and stick on to the panels. I want to do the entire trunk, plus the doors. I'mgonna stay away from the roof and floor for now cause I don't want to take all that plastic apart. Every time I do something, I end up with extra screws and I have to take it back apart to figure out where i missed one.. Plus I've already broken a ton of tabs on the plastic bits.

I have Dynamat Extreme on the doors. Before you do the rest of the car, I would start with the doors. It will give you an idea of how much work you actually will be doing if you do the entire car as the doors is already a pain to do.

With that said, its nice, less rattle in the doors, makes the speakers sounds a little louder.

thanks. how much dynamat did you have to use to cover the doors? I was planning on doing them first anyways.

I bought the Dynamat speaker kit, its just 2 sheets of 1sq ft dynamat extreme. One kit for each door.

gotcha, makes sense. I'mthinking about just buying the bulk packs. After I do the doors, I can use whatever is leftover on the trunk. But I still haven't decided which brand I should use. Is the price difference for dynamat worth it?

Alright, so I after checking out everything available, I decided that I would give peel and seal a try. I put 2 layers on the trunk lid and I am going to leave them be for a couple of weeks and see how they hold up. If they are fine and there's no smell or anything, i'll consider doing the rest of the trunk and/or the doors. If it turns out horrible then I'll ust rip it out and go with the expensive stuff. The last 3 days it has been around 85 here, and i don't see any peeling or dripping. Also, there is ZERO smell. I also stuck a peice onto some mdf and a piece of sheet metal in the back of the car to see if they start to smell/peel off/drip. I'll let you guys know down the road if I have any issues with it. There is a small difference in the bass, and I am assuming that once the whole trunk is done it will be much more noticeable. A 6" by 25' roll was enough for 2 layers on the trunk lid, plus about 6 foot leftover.

its been in the mid 80's for the past week and I haven't had any issues. If you do put it in, just make sure you let it air out real well for the first few days. (drive with the windows down). After I put it in I let it sit with the carpeting and everything out for a day in the sun and it didn't show any signs of problems so I put everything back together and let it go. If you want to see a video of the installation, its up on youtube: . This doesn't cover the entire installation, but it gives you an idea of what you have to deal with. I used 4 rolls (50 square feet) to cover 2 layers on the trunk lid and side walls of the trunk, and then 1 layer on the floor of the spare tire compartment.

*Update*

The peel and seal has been on for over a month in some hot weather and I haven't had any issues with it peeling or having the adhesive melt. I will say this though, for the first few weeks when it got really hot (and in direct sunlight) there would be a bit of a smell, but barely enough to be noticed. drive with the windows down for a minute to air everything out and then it was fine. I will be doing another layer on the trunk though, since it worked so well.

so now that its been a few months, hows everything holding up. I like that you made your own trunk floor custom so you could store stuff with the spare, that's pretty wicked.

So, the peel and seal has been on for 5 months now and I have had no issues. We had some unseasonably hot weather back in september where it got into the 90's and my car was parked in direct sunlight all day and I had no issues with it dripping or melting or pealing off. I actually added some more about a month ago and thats holding up fine too. I'm think the risk would be greater if you lived in a hotter area, like the southwest, but in temperate areas (I live in Maine) It seems to work just fine. The first couple weeks I would notice a VERY slight smell, but after rolling the windows down for a few minutes it would go away, and if it was hot out, i'd want the windows down anyways, so its all good. This summer I'm going to be doing a new setup (new sub, more peel and seal, and a new false floor with spare tire relocation, so stay tuned. It's gonna be some fun stuff.
