so i went to strip my '96 240 out yesterday (on it's way to being my track car) and i noticed that EVERYWHERE has either dynamat or some kind of foam stuff under everything... i got dissapointed and threw the interior back together. so now i figure we can have some fun with this. whats the most efficient way of getting rid of dynamat? it says "dynamat xtreme" on it and the foam stuff really sucks. any advice is appreciated. i'd rather not have to spend all day for 4 weeks peeling all of this stuff off, but until i find a way to get it off, i dont want to have that shiny dynamat exposed. it looks really retarded and glares into the windows. i can take pics of it if you guys want. thanks, Kyle

First:

Why are you removing it? TO save weight? If so, take a couple good healthy dumps and you'll save more weight.

Seriously, stripping the sound deadening out is dumb. It's maybe 10 lbs, and it's down low in the chassis.

Put your effort into making the car faster.

Dynamat is expensive too.

I wish I had extra sound deadning in my car, you're lucky.

I'm looking at buying dynamat to put into my car and you want to rip yours out?

I've heard of guys using black ice to freeze up any gunk left from peeling out sound deadening material. Either way, it's going to be a b*tch. I vote leave them in.

Listen to AZhitman, his word is the voice of NICO... +1 for keeping the interior and getting a track worthy motor.

Carpet won't hurt a thing.

Or, you could spray bedliner over it.

I would only do it to make a stripped interior look nice.

Otherwise it's pointless.

exaactly. thats where i'm headed. i want that stripped but clean look and sound (yes i enjoy all those annoying dB from the road x] sry if i'm insane) i'm going to pull it off and use the tar+rubber remover to get the gunk off (like you'd use after driving through construction on ur ext.), should work. anyone tried it before?

many pounds of dry ice will take about 90% off it off. if you're baller, get liquid nitrogen instead

Hey S13Teddy I noticed you posted some pictures of your stripped interior in another thread when I was searching and was curious if you used spray paint or if you used a gun? I am debating how I want to do mine cause my car is in the primer stage now sitting in my shop waiting for me to spray it and I am debating if I should wipe down the interior and use my gun or just go at it with a spray can. Let me know. Thanks.

i may be completely wrong on this one......and looking at the previous posts i more than likely am....but when i went to car toys and talked to them about dynamat he showed my the one that would just fill the trunk and he said it was 20+ lbs.....it felt like it too when i lifted the box....so if thats just the trunk kit and your car is filled with it wouldnt that add A LOT of weight.....and i read some where that its made from tar....which is heavy....but idk im probably completely off

http://www.dynamat.com/technic....htmlNo, Dynamat Xtreme is not made from tar. You do not want to use the Dynamat Original. It is an old asphalt based product. Xtreme is lighter, 4 times more effective, does not require heat to install, does not smell when installed, does not fall down when installed on the roof or vertical surfaces. Start with Xtreme. Cover the entire car and then use Stinger Road Kill carpet pad IMO. All the info you need on Dynamat is at their site.

well i'm currently away, but when i get back home, the stripping is to begin. i figure i'll yank all the aluminum type stuff off by hand, and then use dry-ice or something else that's really cold to get the gunk off, does anyone know of something not as expensive as liquid nitrogen, but more effective than dry-ice? just wondering.

I know i'm about a month late, but if it was a month ago, i would have said that you're better off swapping cars. You can probably get a better price for your dynamatted 240 and can get some extra mod cash when you buy another.

it'd also save you hours of seemingly endless work. how did the removal process go?

sorry for the laggy-assed response, but i stripped out all my interior, found some scary wiring the guy had done fixed most of it (i hope), found "dead" wires EVERYWHERE (wires not plugged into anything, and/or cut on both ends)... might post some pics on a new thread asking what they are, found massive amounts of dynamat everywhere, etc. but since today is my "let my hands heal from slices and cuts from dynamat" day i decided to post an update. basically i've got the inner wheel wells, under the rear seats and behind them (until where the trunk starts), and in front of the sunroof's dynamat gone. still have a ways to go, but hell. it's a price to pay for not being able to trade cars (because of all the stupid repairs and such i've already done on the car, i might as well just keep going. it's a love thing XD haha). and for the record, it's not because i'm trying to save weight. it doesn't weigh much. but it's kinda hard to have a nice looking, painted, stripped, roll-caged interior with dynamat all over the place haha. and the added noise from the road/car is nice too :] will post pics eventually of before/afters. still have to decide if i want to continue with this thread or start a "dynamat removal" one haha.

p.s. i know. i'm insane. sorry.

*edit*p.p.s. i DID say its on its way to being a track car**
