I have started to hear a sound coming from my car that is troubling.

It almost sounds like an Electric car.

At any real speeds it just a wurr. But then you get to idling speeds in Drive you can hear it pulsating based on the RPM's

Stopped into my dealer on Tuesday and asked about it, but of course I'm not allowed to speak to a Mechanic just a commissioned service Writer.. They tell me to come back Thursday and they will charge me $98 to Diagnose the problem. If its a warranty issue then I will not have to pay the diagnosis fee.

So I take it to my local Mechanic, he puts it up in the air while running, sticks his listening tool to the trans and tells me that is where the sound is coming from, Take it back to the dealer. He will not take any money from me for this service.

I'm at 58,000 miles. Took it in this morning to the dealer and am waiting to hear what they find out.

Since I'm new to the forum I'm wondering if anyone has had this kind of an issue with the CVT yet. I tried searching but failed.

They stuck me into a Kia Spectra 5 as a loaner. Its listed in the same class as the Versa Hatchback, but let me tell you, It is not in the same class as the Versa :frown: This thing sucks and apparently my but is to big for the seat that isn't centred on the wheel.

That sucks. At least they have a 120,000 mile warranty on the CVT! And the Spectra was really that bad? We test drove a very lightly used 09 Rio for the wife with power everything and factory satellite radio ready deck with USB for an awesome price. I was quite impressed with the ride quality and interior quality considering what their cars used to be but we couldn't even get approved for the damn thing with nearly 50% down. wtf? Sorry for the slight hi-jacking

At least you got a loaner! Our Nissan is first come first serve, And if you do come first thing in the morning you're still not guaranteed a car, if it was loaned out the day before and didn't come back. I think the have a few Nissans for loaners. *shrugs*

Hopefully it's nothing too bad, our CVT seems to be going strong. But If there is, its covered under warranty still! which should feel good to know. Keep posted on what happens. Good luck!

Well the car has been rock solid.
I had the problem early on with the fuel pup and it took two tries to get it right. I knew that because I could smell gas in the cabin.

That was back before 15K.
I have also had some problems with the paint that came up right around 38K where I started noticing tiny chips missing. Unfortunately the fix with the little brush made things look worse. Now these nasty sounds. The dealer complained saying where have you been the last 30,000 miles.
Oh I also got a flat once and the dealer who has signs all over about tire specials, didn't carry a tire for the Versa.
But for the most part its been quite the champ with no problems.

at least you got a new car. When I had my Taurus in for service before I got rid of it. They gave me a 99 Buick Century with over 200k miles (it was off the used lot) the thing had a misfire around 3k RPM's and the transmission was going out, it broke down on me 28 hours in, so they towed it back to the dealer and gave me a 02 Escort (definitely not the same class car) but at least it didn't fall apart on me like the Buick did.

Well I took it in this morning for my free Warranty work on my new trany.

Well Free is a relative term. The service writer talked me into a coolant system flush, cabin air filter and new front brakes.

He tried to hit me up for new plugs at 60K even though they are not scheduled for 120K and he did admit the 60K service of the transmission would not be needed, but he sure wanted to Sell me on that. So in the end, my Free work is going to cost me over $300

On the plus side, I'm getting to drive a new Cube this time rather than that junky Kia

Wow, sorry to hear about all your troubles!

Hopefully everything goes well after this! I am at 41k right now and have only had the fuel pump issue. I am hoping that I don't run into something again.. cause I am not under warranty..

You may want to check that.
The CVT Tany's were upped to 120K. But I snuck it in under 60K anyway.

Anyway, Got it replaced this week. along with a front brake Job, and Coolant flush.

They couldn't tell me what the problem was. Nissan doesn't want them going into the CVT's to work on them, they just replace is their is an issue. So unfortunately I can not share any details on what went wrong. Sorry.

Hopefully I never have a problem either. But I'm hoping if I do, it's within the next 5 years before my warranty expires! I've only had the fuel pressure regulator problem last summer and that was fixed.

P.S. How was driving a Cube? I love that little car!

The Cube Was at the top of my list of future Family cars, but now I'm not so sure. While it has it's pluses it also has it negatives.

I don't feel held in place in those seats. And the arm rest was to high or the door arm rest was to low. It made me lopsided. I didn't take it on a long drive. I feel it would be better for the family on a long drive with the extra space and reclining rear seats, but I'm not sure it would be as good for the driver on long trips.
