Asside from commiting so much $ to repair and maintain my '91 Q, I'm fairly happy with the performance level as oppose to the "94-'96 Q's. But one thing that I'm looking into as a future project is to change the look of my car to the appearance of the later years with grill, fog lights, tail light w/ chrome trims, etc. I think this would require changing the front fenders, hood and bumpers as well. Since I have the soul of the original Q, adding on the look of the '94-'96 Q would be an exceptional marriage of style and performance. I like the aerodynamic look of the '91 now, but I like the OEM look of the '94-'96 even more.

Has anyone on NICO attempted this yet? Well, I guess the first question is if it's entirely possible. I understand that '90-'96 G50s are built on the same unibody construction. Would this present any problems in terms of swapping parts?

This is a list of stuff youd have to replace off the top of my head, may be more stuff

Hood, bumper, headlights, quarter panels.. That should be about it.....

Wiring and relays for foglights. I think AZHitman said even the understructure for mounting the body panels was slightly different.

Plenty of JDM options, if you want to add a grill.

Correct.

It's not worth it. Even the doors are different.

You have to do the bumper to fit the lights/hood, you have to do the fenders to match the bumper, you have to change the door skins to match the fenders...

Cheaper by far to buy a 94-95.

Hate to be a killjoy but sometimes "it is what it is."

Ryan has a good idea with the JDM grille, but I have seen a few in person and they're WACK. They don't add cooling, as they're faux, and the fit line along the curve of the hood is tacky and collects dirt.

p.s. A well-maintained 94-95 with a 4.08 and a JWT will spank a 90-93 anyway. So there's not much to gain by keeping the early Q if you prefer the look of the 94-95 to that extent.

a first gen is always faster given an equal amount of mods :)

The 94+ granny gears are acgonizingly long.. I'm sure the 4.08 assists in this matter..

Still if you want to make a 94 as fast as a 90-93 it's dueable.. Just change out the granny gears and you have gotten most of the lost performance back... Still losing some power, as the 94+ only has one hp peak...

RSI has converted to 90-93 gears, and reports great success.

Greg-- I think we both need to get JWT ECU's plugged in and then see how 4.08 Quella compares to my 90. I gotta believe AZ94Q is right on this one-- and I think you know it too... 4.08 is just an effort toward equalizing the 94-95 with the 90 (not spanking it... but hey at least you have first gear starts and can save the TCU jingle :-)).

LOL - The gauntlet is DOWN!!! :)

I agree - Let's plan a pre-mod terrorization of North Phoenix.

I want to drive the 90 next time we meet up - I felt like crap last time, so it wouldn't have been a good idea...

Heh, heh... I just couldn't resist! You know I think Quella rocks...

But next time, you're welcome to take the 90 for a spin and see for yourself... as long as you're feeling up to it (I still can't believe you showed up as sick as you were last time-- but it was fun from my viewpoint).

Count me in...

I want to see how a 92A with lower mileage does against your streteched chains :)

I won't have it in proper condition until July though...

We should all lineup and do some illegal drag racing... somewhere safe of course..

The drag strip wouldn't be bad, but we couldn't all race each other.. not to mention it takes forever to get one race in..

Well even though the thread got side tracked to a completely different subject matter, I'm glad I sparked some healthy & friendly competition. I'm curious on the test results, so good luck with the races and let us all in on the details fellas...

WOW! Changing every exterior part from the bumper back to the front door skins sure sounds like a lot of greens. Maybe I'm way over my head when I first thought about this as a future project. Good things I got you NICO comrads to consult in order to bring me back to reality!

Too bad I do not live in AZ. Would love to "test" my 2003 M45 against modded first-gen Q's! :D

I am still awaiting the results of the other M45 vs. modified Q45 run-off! Rswicki, was it you who was working on that? I can't find that thread!

That would be cool, id love to see how a 4.08 would do against the M.

If a 4.08 and supercharger wont beat an M45, im buying an M45...!

Let's not kid ourselves.. A 400 HP q45 would pummel an m45.. Just like a supercharged M45 would pummel a NA modified Q.

The supercharger is the trump cardAs is n20
