Ok so I'm taking apart, cleaning, and sanding down pieces of my interior (console piece around the shifter/ac control/head unit, as well as the other center console piece beside of it) in preparation to paint it silver for the silver/black interior I'm planning, almost ala the new style nissan aluminum interior trim. My question is...you know the lighted removable pocket between the shifter and the cig lighter? Well I was wondering if the lid from that can be removed so I can paint it in two pieces for a much cleaner look...anyone know?

heh... that "lighted removable pocket" is called an ash tray! Non smokers.... lol

anyways, I don't think the lid is easily removed... you might be better off just masking off the whole thing except the top.

lol well I figured the one in the back was enough, but I didn't realize how stupid that would be.

that ash tray is removeable. Just open in, grab the "door", and pull it out.

Right, I got that far, I was just wondering if the door that closes the tray was easily removable

pull the ashtray out and down near where it hinges there will be 2 lil screws one on either side just unscrew them and you can take the front plate of the ashtray for perfect painting

Eh well it seemed awesome, but I can't find the screws you're referring to....I assume you mean on the sides with the hinges, but the only holes I see there aren't for screws...also, is the ashtray different on the s14 vs my s13?

You might want to think about covering the console in vinyl instead of paint. Silver paint will possibly end up flaking off even with proper preperation. A friend of mine works at a commercial sign shop (fast signs) and got me some really cool brushed-aluminum look vinyl. It was quite convincing and pretty cheap too. It might hold up better than paint, just an idea.

for that ash tray, well if you desperately want to, try yanking that cover off, because hey, well that could be the solution (just like yanking that door panels once all the screws are removed).
