heres the vform shot..it was painted black...
also guy and gals...
i have been reading through the comments and while i am very happy you all enjoy what i did ..i dont wanna start any bad blood in any respect!
the write up i am doing is what worked for me...after hours and hours weeks and weeks of thought and plan, trial and error..and while i am sure alot will find it interesting...doc is correct...alot will not be able to successfully do it. i mean anyone can try...but shoot....id love to try to run a marathon...but it just wont happen...and its not like a paper fold up where if you screw up u can crumble it up and start over with a fresh peice...think about it this way...even if you find a set of lights on ebay..the goin rate is about 150 a light!.....(plus minus) ..now...factor in what a set of projectors costs...although i used mercedes..most of guys are doin acuras...i havent seen a set go for less then 125-150..thats one set...my set up uses two!...we are at at least 450 bucks...now add the goodies...leds halos, and shrouds, paint..etc...a good set of shrouds...50 bucks?..i made mine,,,but the tooling and set up wasnt cheap...i just wanted something noone had...so lets say you get all your parts....you should be around 500-550.....thats just parts at the basic end....no labor yet...u are gamb|ing with 500-550 before u start! maybe more!...not a cheap thing to try, and if ya screw up...its gonna cost!..
so that being said i will admit the following to any who cares...
this was my FIRST ever attempt at moding a light...i never even thought about doin it until :
1. i saw the audi r8 and fell in love with its lightsand 2. i saw how bad mchad wanted a projector, and got tired of hearung it cant be done..........and lets face it..any time we asked this poor guy to PS something...he came through every time! and he even taught us a 15 dollar electric impact u can plug into ur cig lighter can really work!
so i just wanted to see if i could.....
but....you have to understand some things about me first...and this is not a toot the grystrm horn section nor a resume although it will sound like one....but understanding a bit about my background will let u in on where u stand in "trying" this mod if you are not a pro like brandon with oodles of experience or an above average crafty person. and while the balls may be there the ability may not especially when we are talking about an expensive "try" like this....
my bachelors is in industrial design, i have taken 2 years alone in automotive design. 3 years of design and protyping. 3 years of planning and structure, 3 years of architectual planning and design...4 years of autocad...from a school named pratt institute (not sure if any of you heard of it but those that did will understand!)...yadayadyayada
and it really took alot of what i learned to do this modification. maufacturer parts are the final stage of THEIR evolution and as such are designed for the look and function they perform....to change it calls for a redsign of the entire part...and knowing how to do it in a way that will still let if function as intended. in this case....controling a beam of light with a projector (correctly), with a housing designed for a reflector!...sounds easy...but brandon will tell ya...its a biiiitch!
...point is i knew what i was in for with the "try" before i even started...i didnt know the particulars...i just knew i could handle it......i planned for the costs i was aware of the downsides..i looked at all the "what if's" i could and was ready for the ones i didnt foresee...i had the time.. well at least i made the time....and have a decent set up of tools....what i didnt have i made...vacuform table....alignment rigs..etc.....even more expense and time..
i knew it wasnt gonna be a two week thing or even a two month thing....i did not care!...you guys have been seeing me and this thing since early in the year right?...some of you figured i just dropped the idea...some of you have been waiting to see the final!...
it went throught stages of evolution...and has been ripped apart, redone and redone again...and guess what......IT STILL WILL BE! things can always be better!
the whole point is...yes anyone can try...but not everyone will succeed...just know that that word "try" comes with some heavy baggage...and if you try it with your only set of lights...ur nuts...guys like brandon have more of a pressure to succeed because he has clients to satisfy...i did not...the only pressure i had was myself...and pressure is a horrible enemy it can make u lose patience and ur cool....not something to do when performing this mod....
so in closing....why did i write this whole thing again?...oh....ill quote anton ego form ratatouille...."not everyone can be a great artist...but a great artist can come from anywhere!"
ya cant knock a guy for trying...nor not trying....but trying...is expensive...just know that much...
