So I am totally new to the 240sx... I decided to drop Hondas, and go for some rear wheel drive fun. As I was gazing through craigslist... I saw that 2/3 240sx's had transmission problems... Do they have weak trannys? And can one be rebuilt or can I find a replace for it at a reasonable price?

Like I said sorry for the noob question.

Why pick a 240, OP? There are plenty of inexpensive RWD cars to pick from. Miata, MR2, FC RX7, MKIII Supra, SC300... Hell, even S2000's are getting cheap. Don't be a sheep. Think outside the box.

And our transmissions are pretty stout.

Ok.. I like 240sx. My friends cousin had a sweet 240 with an SR swap. Put at 13 lbs of boost... It smoked everything in its path... The reason i dont want a mr2 is its mid engine... not looking for that. Miata is a chick car. And i am high school student. Not looking for the tip top car. Just something i can have fun in without doing many mods if any. I was reading about the 240s and they have a good history such as longevity and the aftermarket is full of different paths to go on.

it will show in time depending on which route you take your 240, that means if you are all about the looks OR you do something unique and make it a machine to drive not just to look at, style or function?? that is the question

Well like I said previosly... I am in high school. So for now just cosmetic. If I do anything more, it would just be some coilovers and a camber kit. After school and a get a second car. My goal would be to do an sr swap. But who knows.

Yup, I saw that miata snark too lol! Def. lost credibility there boy. It's all about the suspension geometry these days nub. Don't just think about straight line performance.

Yeah it's probably just a string of bad luck that you keep finding bad-transmission 240's, i have 2 and they are both running strong on their original transmissions. (one with 145,000 and one with 240,000) Just keep looking it took me almost 2 months to find a hatchback that wasn't molested, but im happy i held out its the funnest car ive had (out of only 3 though..86 camaro, 91 infiniti m30) and i'll never get rid of it.

If you do end up getting one with a bad transmission though it should be pretty inexpensive to replace, people are always pulling ka's out for swaps.

You know you dun f***ed now, right?

Chick car.

Do you have any idea how easy & cheap it is to be a Camry V6 in here?!

Don't make me bomb this thread with all the other neglected FR's, like the Z31's/Z32's Soarers and MKIII Supra's!

So many options... So many options...

And don't forget... some of them have targa tops!

The op is clearly a fanboy and is automotively confused. Yes, this is a Nissan forum, but most of us recognize a good platform when we see it, regardless of the brand.

And just to add to that... I would be sooo annoyed if everybody in my crew all drove the same car. I was just on Risky Devils blog last night and they got some of everything in their squad. Now they know wsup...
