i was at the skid pad yesterday and my muffler decides to just fall off, i guess it wasnt even welded on or anything so its completely gone

i finished up the day and noticed that it melted the foam underneith the plastic rear bumper hahahah

anyway i figure now is time to upgrade...i noticed the HUGE difference that having a less restrictive exhaust made and i would like to keep the torque i gained

so i was thinking i could take my car to the local muffler shop and have them make me a 2.5 inch...

first question is how rediculous is the sound going to be without resonators?

second question is roughly how much is it going to cost with a muffler and stuff utilizing the stock hangers and such...rough estimate would be cool with me

and lastly, do you think they will make me a test pipe on the side and give it to me for my own installation for track days

thanks everybody

Buy a muffler that you like and a test pipe. Muffler shop should charge like 75 to make the piping. And my car sounds good with out the resonator but no resonator and cat is going to be loud and annoying IMHO.

IMHO, You would probaly save more money going with an ebay exhaust.

yeah im probably gonna get a dual tiped flowmaster or something and the test pipe also

75 bucks for piping sounds like a good price

my friend has a resonator that he is gonna give me so im gonna run

and as far as ebay goes..i think id rather have the local shop do it so that it is tucked up higher when its mounted cause i know ebay is notorious for having stuff that "almost fits" and my car is pretty low

thank for the responce on the rough price

yeah my friend suggested flowmaster so ill probably go with that

idono what kind of resinator he has but its 22" so its probably gonna make it deep

surprisingly the stock exhaust system minus the muffler sounds amazing

its really deep

Do not buy flowmaster. It is not a V8.

Magnaflow and Vibrant FTW.

I used to have a muffler shop special... 2.5 piping with no resonators and typical N1-style muffler. It sounded very deep but was annoyingly loud.

Now I have 3 inch piping with resonators and a dual tip muffler. Very nice. Quiet and discreet. Didn't lose any power... the torque just changed locations in the powerband. Or maybe that was because I added a header...

lol yeah im gonna just have a convo with the local shop about it they will give me what i want, they do good work on imports and performance cars

it was pretty funny cause i got a header but stock exhaust so i wasnt noticing anything except a slightly wide torque band but when the muffler fell off i felt the way less restriction and the power just opened up and drifting improved so much! way more torque and responce

i dont wanna go quite as big as 3 with the n/a set up

i like my torque kicking in at 3, but i wish it extended all the way up to 6k

That is a good observation, btw. With the 3 inch piping and header, you don't lose any power or torque, it just comes on higher in the rpm band. I gotta say, in retrospect, I prefer the old low end response I had before rather then the little top end I gained. 248/232 cam swap should fix that though.

thanks, yeah the lower/mid end is really nice IMO, i noticed it the most at the skid pad in second gear, initiations were easy, i was drifting a huge doughnut and i was practicing maintaining the drift making it wider and wider and wider and noticed i couldnt get any wider cause i just couldnt get enough torque and i was flooring it

shifted up to 3rd worked for a second then started to die, kicked it, still dying so back to second and kept going

hopefully the flywheel/clutch helps that

but good to know that it it just shifts it, i knew less restriction gave more power to a point but the raised torque band is interesting

maybe i could dial in what i want by removing and incerting test pipes where the cat and res would go on track days

$450 for a muffler shop special is crazy. Is it at least mandrel bent?

At that price, you might as well buy a BRM with no resonators...
